Warren, I’d love to lend a hand and watch. I’ve read all our threads and a few referenced materials. However, nothing beats experience. I envision using this technique on fin cans initially. (I do have a Kestrel…)I’d be interested in… Read more»

I will add one thing here. Making plate stock for fins or building integral fin cans isn’t difficult. Both can be done without v-bagging or other fancy techniques of any kind. For most sport rocketry purposes, v-bagging is overkill and… Read more»

I might add that Adrian’s comments are good – particularly for smaller jobs. My first v-bag project was a 24mm altitude bird and was done with a shop vac, plastic garbage bag and duct tape with a kludged vacuum fitting… Read more»

A couple of tips:Paper towels make pretty good breather material.Sealing vacuum bags with bag sealer tape is sometimes necessary, but almost always a pain. Whenever I can make it fit, I just use a lawn&leaf bag and put a knot… Read more»

Right now I’m waiting on some Nomex honeycomb fin cores from Giant Leap. When those turn up and I get the airframe slotted, and then post a Saturday date for doing a v-bagged layup. I’ll be happy to have a… Read more»

I’d love to lend you a hand Warren, and learn some more techniques. Steve, I use a medical pump, which is capable of about 25, I still haven’t put a valve on mine and I’ve let it run for hours,… Read more»

Given the amount of interest in this the last year or so, I should probably do another class.I have a vacuum pump I bought reconditioned from Aircraft Spruce for $150 that will pull 25-28″ of Mercury – depending on the… Read more»

Warren is the guy to learn from here. I’ve been exceedingly happy with the v-bagging Warren and I have done. I basically ran the scissors and the scale and talked Warren into doing everything else 😯

My guess is they flew under NAR Pink Book rules for the Upscale – maybe the Giant Sport Scale rules or something similar. I don’t think there is a real push to be the first section or club to host… Read more»

It appears from the bad pictures I’ve seen that the antenna configuration on the DC 30 and 40 is much better than the DC 20. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to see a clear one. If anyone has… Read more»

It looks like the dc40 is a little larger than the dc30. The dc40 is 3.25″ x 1.75″ x 1.5″ while the brb900 is 1.25″ x 2.85″

Is the dc40 much smaller or more easily integrated into a rocket? I haven’t seen one yet. You’d probably be able to get dc30’s much cheaper, and for larger rockets, the dc20 is in the $75-90 range on ebay.-Ken

My mistake; I thought the question was about the Beeline GPS. Agreed about the version with the 900 MHz module.

Adrian, this one does not require a HAM to operate. It runs in the 900Mhz range. It combines the trimble gps along with the digi module. On the ground it has another digi module. It is not the digi Xtend… Read more»

The main reason to get the beeline GPS is that it’s smaller, easily fitting into a 38mm coupler. You would also need a HAM license to operate it. The Telemetrum combines the GPS tracker with a basic recording altimeter, and… Read more»
