Thanks guys for your patience, so… just to be clear. The minimum Height of each fin, must be 2.755″ from the body tube to the wing tip? Thanks again

That’s the DIAMETER of a circle circumscribed around the fins, also known as the Span-Diameter in RockSim. The semi-span minimum is 2.755″.

Howdy,Cowabunga, those would be HUGH! That’s a circumference of 19″ or 12 1/2″ across. Man, if that’s the case I’ll need to make them .010″ thick, so much for a mile high, hehe.

Contest rules have been posted on the Front Page, in the right hand Articles block. And we’re working with Darrell Mobley to get the Upscale Contest announced nationally. Thanks for asking.

Tailcone contributes to part of the total 1.0 meter length, but not the .85 length of 40mm diameter airframe. You must have .85 meters of 40mm diameter.I tried to think through the question of tailcones. You can add a tailcone… Read more»

I believe they are 1.0. I got them from Randy as part of a package deal. They have been stored in my crawlspace (very low humidity) and haven’t turned into fun-noodles.Edward

@Warren: You’re probably right about the weight.SARA’s launch site only has a 4,500′ waiver, with call-in windows to 6,500′ — they’re near one of the approach paths for Tucson International Airport. So, weight isn’t a big factor for them –… Read more»

Hey,Yes, very nice video. Great ejection charge amonts, barely wiggled the camera. I always liked the clear working engine model, a clear loaded rocket (minus motor) would be really good for doing the outreach stuff, very visual.

Before the annual meeting, Bret–a composite geek like you, Warren–and thank god for both of you!, and I went to Ft. Collins Plastics, and I saw the clear plastic tubes. I was thinking about using a clear tube for electronics… Read more»

Looks cool. I expect it would be quite heavy compared to an equivalent composite or paper/phenolic rocket.
