Canvas under pads was used successfully in model rocketry way back in the very late 50’s when it began. That’s a good suggestion for pad fires.

With all the sugar motors I did, I had the NASA style launch. They burned for a second or two with great smoke, then suddenly built up thrust and came off of the pad. Really built up a good roar… Read more»
