But a straighter boost would–I guess the H268 went sideways by at least 10 degrees.Just a notion, but as i have suggested before a beau coup tower of 10′ long that carries levels with it dialed in would do it… Read more»

How about a planer and a jig clamped in place to control the cutting depth?

John,Wish I could help, if the fins have a square tip, IMO doubt shaving .08″ off the span will gain 200′ in all cases. But a straighter boost would–I guess the H268 went sideways by at least 10 degrees. Thats… Read more»

You can take the test at the launch, but contact Joe Hinton first, so he has a heads up.

I was planning on it. I’d like to do it at the Sept. club launch – not as much activity going on. I’d be obliged if can certify for me. I still need to take the test though.Ken.

Ken, are you going for L2 with the L2 rocket you showed me at the next launch (if the September launch happens), or Oktoberfest? If so, I’ll co-certify you with someone else, maybe Joe H. if he’s avaiable. Joe will… Read more»

Already notched the ring on the adapter. You guys are way ahead of me. Next bird will be built with G10 fins I think and maybe even a layer of glass around the tube if I can learn how to… Read more»

The PML retainer will work just fine. You may have to notch your thrust ring portion of the adaptor to clear the screws. (ive used one of these in my 4″ PML Endeavour worked fine. also had the same basic… Read more»

I sanded with 220 or something like that and used 30 minute epoxy to laminate the fins (hobby town brand). I pressed the two pieces together between two large pieces of particle board using a 45lb weight and a couple… Read more»

In fact the actual construction of plywood is nothing more then bonded together wood going opposite grains from one another. So that shows that bonding does work fine.

Listen to Conway. I didn’t realize your rocket was that big. Fin cans are great, too. As Conway said, if you rough up what’s going to be glued, whether it’s plywood or fiberglass, it will bond better for the reasons… Read more»

The two concerns are:1. I was unable to find 1/4″ aircraft plywood sheets (12″x24″) for the fins that wasn’t warped or twisted in some way, so I laminated two sheets of 1/8″ sheets together. It’s pretty stiff, but I’m worried… Read more»

I appreciate the advice. It’s well taken. On the motor cato, I did (as always) read the instructions. But in this case was distracted at the crucial moment of installing the forward o-ring. Put the big one in instead of… Read more»

With or without the aluminum, I can look at it. A motor CATO has nothing to do with what you did or didn’t do with the design. But since you had a bad experience, it was wise to step back…. Read more»
