Very cool looking rocket. When do you plan on flying?I’ll send a PM with the address, but no need to send me anything – I had a lot of scraps sitting around.

Nevermind. Haven’t used fiberglass since the late 80’s, and I forgot it cuts like butter with the right tools. Done. Warren, you oughta lock this puppy. Something tells me the fins aren’t going to sell. 🙂 And long-toothed me is… Read more»

Thanks, Doug. That would be quite a commute. 🙂 I have diamond bits and some good cutoff disks, plus sanding, that should work well enough. Any nicks will be covered with a good fillet and enough fiberglass cloth to never… Read more»

BSchaefer.I have had OK success widening slots in fiberglass tubing by using a Diamond bit in a Dremel tube and “free-handing” the cut. However, it won’t be perfect. You can’t get the bits from Harbor Freight. I would be happy… Read more»

Okay, correction. The fins for sale here are 0.187″ thick, not 0.25″ or 0.125″. I ordered 0.25″ custom fins and, man, they are thicker than what came with PR’s Comp 5. Gonna have to widen the slots a bit. Also,… Read more»

Doug,That is more than generous. After I finish (and absorb the cost of) my L3, I just might make a special payload for one of your cameras. Thank you very much for the offer.

If you, or anyone, is interested I’ll offer one of my cameras to go in your rocket. (They love a free ride…). If you want the high speed movie camera or stills, but I don’t do video or even DV…. Read more»

Actually, I hadn’t thought of putting one in there Doug… I’m definitely open to your suggestions because I don’t know anything about flying cameras…Warren

Sounds very nice Warren, but which camera are you going to use in your payload? Doug

There will likely be some considerable differences… and drag racing N motors will be expensive. My bird will be 9′ of airframe and depending on whether I use the nose that came with it or a new nose will be… Read more»

Warren will probably be up to bat first for L3. But after we’ve both achieved that, I’m game.

Agreed. What’s so cool about this is that we bought the same kit, but both are going to look really different. Inside and out. I’ve thought about making the booster longer for the full length 98mm casing, but I still… Read more»

Yeah – although it’s nowhere near as stiff as the carbon honeycomb :)Either material is great for fins – I doubt I’ll use G10 ever again.

I have to say, this Competitor 5 kit from Performance Rocketry that both of us bought is a great kit. I’m bashing the hell out of it, adding a tail cone, extending the motor mount to be large enough for… Read more»

I’ve built 2 birds with the Giant Leap 1/8″ G10 honeycomb for fins and bulkhead material. I love the stuff. Expensive, but pretty easy to work and LIGHT!!!!. The biggest issue is edging it effectively.Warren Musselman

I have to agree with john about the CF honeycomb. I have some 1/8″ thick, and it feels about as stiff as 1/8″ G10, but weighs less than 2oz/ft^2. Incredible stuff, and practically indestructible.
