I am planning to fly an AMW K555SK at MHM this year. I have never flown an AMW motor, and I don't like not being familiar with an motor before trying to assemble it. Unfortunately, since I do not have an LEUP I can't get the reload until launch day. Is anyone planning to fly any AMW motors in April that I could watch you build or is there someone who has experince with AMW that wouldn't mind double checking my work at MHM. I have the motor (not the reload) and I have the recommended snap ring pliers, but this flight will be a new DD kit I'm finishing up and I'd really hate to screw up the motor assembly. There is already enough I could screw up with the DD setup 😕 .
Also, can anyone recommend a good ignitor? I have some homemade ones but I have no idea how hard the AMW motors are to light.
I can help you out or better yet, you can see Jim Amos at his booth (the AMW vendor onsite) and have him give you the look see while you're doing it.

I ave loaded a AMW load and it very similar to Aerotech. There are very well written directions. One pointer is that sense your flying a Skid Mark i would watch the weather , becasue if it is really dry ot there skid marks may not be allowed ot fly. I flew a L1100 (dad helped me) from AMW and loved it so there good quality. Good luck

I don't think we'll need to worry about dryness, at least for MHM. Beyond that is questionable of course, but given that March and April are typically the wettest months of the year in the Front Range and Plains, I'm not worried about that. I plan on flying a K555SK myself although I'm not entirely sure what bird it will be in.
Do the AMW come with ignitors or do I need to find one? If I do, any recommendations on what to use? I plan to fly a K555SK on Saturday and if all goes well I'm hoping to fly a K670GG on Sunday.
8) Batman, you will need an igniter 😕 I get igniters from a guy in Calif called Fuddrucker. I have fired a pile of them and they work. His big ones will light most K with ease. Stop by and I will give you one. If you like them, you can contact Gary (Fudd) direct. I think he charges a buck for the small and med, and 1.50 for the large. 🙂 Since I have used Fudds', lighting motors from D to K is now a non-issue 8)
Batman,
No worries on the AMW load and building the motor. It is by far the most easy of any motor to build. If you would like at MHM I would be glad to give you a hand as I wont be flying anything on the Comercial motor days. So I can assist people. Ive built and flown more then my fair share of AMW motors and cant say enough how easy they are. All the orings are the same. There are 4 orings 2 on the nozzle and 2 on the forward closure. The grains are all the same. one liner, that needs greased well as well as the orings and groves and nozzle and closure. Easy. They only thing to really learn is what needs to be greased like how and a good set of snap ring plyers.. BTW I have those.
For Ignitors if you want to see Tim for one thats good. Or you can get one from me. I make the pyrogen and the ignitor. Guranteed to light even the most stubborn Green motors. Ive used these to light many of K and a few L motors as well as some ANCP motors. What ever you want to do we have you covered.
Thanks guys. Hopefully I can take you both up and the offer. 😀
