I have been told that the best choice for
air starting a motor is to us a Blue Thunder (BT)
propellant. (Example RMS H220)
They light much eaiser, than a White Lighting.
It was suggested that when lighting a White Lighting,
it is helpful to attach a small slice of BT propellant
to the side of the ignitor. Lightly sand the inside of
the top grain. And as I learned at MHM. Hang or
suspend the ignitor to keep Gs from forcing in down
away from the top of the top grain.
Does this sound reasonable to Those in the know.
Just a reminder. My air start at MHM did not work. The
ignitors fired but no motor ignition.
Thanks Mike.
I can't comment on airstarts since I've never done them, but I ALWAYS sand the inside of my top grain with 80 grit sandpaper before assembling the motor. I also use a rat-tail file to rough up the top of reloadable c-slot motors like the K185.
