OK, I'll report to sensitivity training in a bit 😐 the idea of cooling in minimum diameter rockets is pretty interesting... that is all I have flown redlines in.
I'm curious if the K270 has had any issues? Very cool looking motor - we don't have enough long-burn K's these days...
8) I think Doc was refering to Aero saying that it was user error. I just am not buying that at all. I have found that I see it in the H165/ 29-180 case most. Hey, anyone can have a bad batch of propellant, or a bad run of cases, that is part of life. What happens next is the problem, Aero acted like I was , A. Telling a Lie B. Some sort of dumb shit. C. Joe Bagofdonuts small time dealer. Last year GLR spent 50K with Aero, we should get better service than that. That said, I have never had any problems with the 29/360 loads. I will fire one this weekend at Hartsel and see what happens. I will let you know 8)
I've flown many H165R's without any issues. Gotta make sure the o-rings are in the right spot tho...
8) A quick look at my BATF paperwork shows I have sold 72 H165's in 3 years. Most all flew fine. The ones that were a problem were around the same time period. Maybe a bad batch, we will never know, Aero would not help. So, I just don't fly that load. There are so many loads out there, I fly the ones that work for me. It will be nice to see the new Reds from CTI, should have them for next months launch. I will pass out a few, we can get a good look. 8)

Why is it that in hobbies like this, the mfgs' don't seem to take their customers seriously?????
I'm dealing with a hostile mfg on some CNC parts for an RC Rock crawler, he seems to think he is God and can do no wrong and we are all peons that know nothing. It doesn't take too many people going elsewhere to get their attention quickly. GLR is one of the few big names I have found in this hobby and I'm amazed they would treat you that way. But, a God mentality is still a HUTB thing..... Pretty much a bummer destroying stuff because of a companies pride.
And by the way, I also interpreted the "you" in "Do you really think that I dont know how..." as directed at Aerotech, rather than John.

I have only seen it in the small 29mm motors 180 and 120 cases, 240 case and 360 will probably be fine... i wish there was a warranty or something were i could send my cases to be examined...
the 29mm min dia that i had a failure in was in the 120 case G77R i believe....
the motors seemed to blow out right after the liner in between the liner and the .001 of an inch of the aft Oring

I saw tons of Redlines at MHM in the larger sizes and they all work to perfection! so maybe aerotech has known about it but didn't want to instill a recall for the smaller motors....
360 case is 6 grains.... the 180 is obviously 3 grains so.... maybe the more grains it has the better it will function

John cmon we know you are probably the highest flying rocketeer in the club and maybe in TRA history, obviously you know more then most in the field of making rockets going higher then anyone elses... so asking the questions help all of us be close to what you are 😀

Stepping a wee bit off the track of this thread, has anyone ever flown the redline that goes in the 38/1080 case? That is the same case that the J570 uses... That is a pretty intriguing motor.
Years ago I saw a 38mm K (EX) that was probably not a good candidate for a minimum diameter build. The motor was essentially two 38/1080 cases stacked on top of each other. It had like 432 grains in it (actually, I think it was a 12 or 14 grain motor!)... really cool.
didnt know they made Redlines for that case! isn't it like 70 dollars a reload for that case? kinda crazy! all the clubs J motor alt records are on that case.... why isn't there the 720 case records for J motor
It seems that dividing records by impulse range is the only truly logical solution. John and I have had a fair amount of discussion about altitude records over the last few years and one piece of fallout from that has been the Single Shot and Super Single Shot Sweepstakes. If you want to kick some butt in a 38/720 case, the Super Single Shot is basically highest altitude on a J350 wins the pot. The pot currently stands well over $100. We have had pots in excess of $200 and I believe we had $300 in the Single Shot a few years ago. Winner takes all.
One thing is your Cd goes down a lot more for smaller diameter than it does for reduced length. I believe the current world F and G records will stand - possibly forever - due to the lack of 24mm full F and G motors such as the old AT single use F32 and G55 motors. A 14 grain K motor, if it didn't CATO, would easily take the K altitude record all things being equal.

That K motor was EX and it had a very tiny "web", meaning the core was just enormous. I think it was barely a K. Just seeing the case was wild. The rocket that it flew in was called "Shockwave"...
Tim, do you stock the H238 in a 29-180? And has anyone had trouble with it?
I'd like to get some data at 100 G's+ with my new 250G-capable Parrot, and I think my new rocket will be able to take it.
8) I do stock the H238, and I have both sold and flown (last weekend was the last one) without any problems. I sent up my Bull Pup up in Utah with one. As you know, I plan on using one in my Shadow at LDRS, with your new Parrot. In my mind ( 🙄 ) when using this motor in a min. project, the burn is the least thing to worry about!
I thought you were going to use an H268. Doesn't it sim a little faster? The impulse is almost twice as high if you can fit it.
If my little rocket passes an Estes motor checkout this week, and I get my panel of production Parrots back from the assembler and make good progress finishing those this week (a lot of ifs) then I'll go for the H238 on Saturday. That should be a good test of the Parrot for your application.
