I was just wondering... how many people are in NCR, and how many are active? Also, does anyone know how many people are active in tripoli and NAR nationwide?
Current membership in NAR, according to the latest electronic newsletter, was just over 5000, of which, if I remember correctly, about a quarter of those fly high power. For TRA, I'm remembering the total number of members in the just over 3000 range, with something like 90 percent flying high power. NCR has kept a pretty level fluctuation of members and is probably something like 80 current members. Dennis Billings could/will provide more accurate and current numbers for the membership of NCR at the Annual Meeting. Trouble with some of the overall numbers, is that some flyers are active in more than one group but not necessarily members and some flyers are dual affiliated with the National Orgs. and/or other clubs as members and some current club members rarely fly anything anymore.
wow i had no idea there were so few of us! neat!
High Power rocketry and so-called amateur rocketry is probably the most rarified of all hobbies. In one reference I saw that as of 2008 there were less than 10,000 active participants WORLD-wide. That is including everyone from cert'd L1 flyers up through projects like Ky Michaelson's "space" shot and the guys in the Mavericks who routinely break 100K'.
Not bad company - its fewer than the number of people who have ever physically set foot on Antarctica.
PS: By the way Joe, my database shows a total of 251 "ever" members of NCR or its predecessor clubs - PHITS and TRM. We'll have to wait until the annual meeting to hear what Dennis Billings has to say about how many folks are current on their dues and the launch logs will show who actually flies regularly.
Hey, I am a member of both TRA and NAR and I am also one of those that rarely flies anything anymore 😉
Darn school, who needs edumacation!
are there any repositories of known HPR webshops? I'm considering the possibilities of starting yet another HPR-based web business, and the next step is estimating the cost of advertising.

www.rocketryforum.com and www.rocketryplanet.com are both great places to let people know about your products. If you're active in the forums it's worth more than paid advertising. I think they both have free listings of links to rocketry web businesses.
And try http://www.rocketryonline.com/index.php as another aswesome resource.
