Ok,
So I see that there is going to be another launch weekend coming up. Is both days EX or just Sunday?
Tim said he will be there on Sunday. Does anyone know if John will be there Sat? I need some min diam motors.....
Gregoreo de confused....
I know both days are research days and I expect they would be covered under TRA research rules. If you need motors on Saturday, I may be able to cover you until Tim arrives on Sunday. What do you need?
Doug
Long story, but, single use 29 housings..... For couplers. I also have a 38mm fore enclosure to give back to Tim. I am told that John has access to mis-run PVC tubing that I can get. I have several 29 and 38 min diam projects in the works but am taking a beating on getting parts....
I may by some slim chance have a 38mm bird to launch if I can verify the numbers on my grains and get the thumbs up from my "Instructor":P ..... And probably my first dual deploy - this is all if I can get the wife to let me out of a bathroom remodel.
I believe Saturday is certified motors only and Sunday is TRA Research rules. That's the way it was planned - Joe would have to pipe up if that has changed.

Could someone provide the "Reader's Digest" version of what a "Research Launch" is again? IIRC flyers must be L2 or up, but any size motor can be flown?

When was this decided? I was under the impression that since Sunday 12th was canceled there was only going to be a one day makeup launch......
Is this some kind of TRA research weekend event?
I'm not complaining, just trying to get the facts.
John, what day are you going to be there?
I just talked to Joe H and confirmed both days are TRA research days.
Doug
Thanks Doug!!!!!! You da MAN!
To clarify and clear up any and maybe all mis-understandings. The orginally scheduled Sunday, July 13th TRA Research Launch was postponed until this coming weekend, July 19th and 20th to provide an opportunity for Tripoli members to take advantage of a better waiver than what is currently is available at our North Site.. This weekend was quietly scheduled back in January when I first started working on getting "windows" approved for MHM and Oktoberfest and was intended to be a backup to the dates for the MHM launch which happened but without the "windows" being approved. Water under the bridge now but we've got the approval for this weekend and Oktoberfest, provided everything goes according to plans for this weekend. USFS has approved our use of the site. Ben Russell, Director of Tripoli Research approved the weekend and I approved this message.

Approval of Joe is supplied by the "We approve of Joe Committee" at least I think so, nobody approved of me saying that.....
Thanks for the email and this. I can plan my weekend now.
The Cliff Notes version of TRA Research Rules are, as JW remembers, TRA membership in good standing and TRA Certified Level 2 acheivement or better. Commercial and 'research' motors approved for flight except black-powderd based motors and liquid fueled motors with the exception to NOX hybrids. BOD approval shall be required for any research rocket/flight where the total installed impulse is equal to or greater than 81,920.01 N-Sec (Q and above). All of the Research Safety Code can be found here: http://www.tripoli.org/documents/ResearchSafetyCode200709.pdf and is very interesting reading (should be required but I can't enforce that).
I'll be there both days. Leaving Iowa at 5PM CST Friday night and driving straight through. Probably show up about 2AM Mountain time. I *might* stay in Cheyenne or Sidney, but will probably drive straight through.
JW
I will still be up, come on out!

Anyone who wants to try besting 20K this weekend should watch this spot http://www.weatherimages.org/data/imag192.html

As I understood it from last ex-launch you could be sponsored by a level 2
and fly???????
I offered a Cub Scout dad from the MHM launch (he lives a couple doors down from me) a Level 1 cert. flight this weekend. Figured we could get him hooked, and spending his money sooner, than waiting for Greg R. to get it done. 😉
Hope I wasnt out of line. 😳
