North site here we come! I'm geeked to get back up there. Some questions:
a.) is anyone camping Friday or Saturday?
b.) is anyone flying on Sunday? I know we always get revved up to fly, but the second day of research launches is often a bit slow...
c.) will anyone have a tower out there? Adrian, were you going to bring yours?
d.) is anyone flying anything really cool?
I'm planning to come on Saturday, with my tower.
Depending on the weather and how much I can get done, I may fly a carbon 38mm bird with the new CTI I216 motor, and a Raven altimeter in a new Featherweight av-bay.
I might chug along with an I216 shot of my own... though mine isn't as glamorous (exposed rivet, conical cone, phenolic, thicker fins, etc.).
Maybe we do Dr. J the honor of breaking the TRA record twice in one day? I'll go first insomuch as your rocket is built more appropriately (VK cone, carbon, etc.) and thattaway we could potentially break the TRA record twice - assuming we both get above 14,003', which is 2% over the current mark. We've both been up there on the I600 (and both dq'd ourselves for cylinder vioations IIRC?). The I600 is hardly the ideal motor.
I'm going apogee deploy - are you going dual deploy? If we are both apogee, we should fly at about the same time so we can take the same walk. I think I can get to the mid-14's, maybe a bit more. This thing is a bit of a fireplug 8)

Cool. Sounds like fun. I'm debating between apogee and dual deploy. The DD system I worked out for the sustainer for my Balls shot would probably be difficult to integrate with my new av-bay. So if the winds are light I'll go with you on the apogee deploy and put a smaller chute on it. Two shots at tracking should help our odds. I know I wouldn't have found Violent Agreement last year without Ed's tracking.
I'll let you go first, but I don't know if mine will go higher. I'll probably be flying my sustainer from my Balls shot, and I don't know if it flies straight yet, since it was out of sight after the first stage. It also isn't as optimal as Violent Agreement from last year, but the I216 and the tapered aft closure should help. If it's a straight flight it should still do pretty well, though. In the unlikely event we both break it, and mine goes higher, I'll wait till yours shows up on the books before I send in my application. I'm sure i just jinxed it, though. 😕
I'm hoping to fly my 29mm 2 stage for the TRA record on Saturday if the winds are nominal and Wilke gets his bird back with the tracker so I can follow my flight. Sims to around 18k with "gulp" apogee deployment of a relatively small chute. I could do some walking as well. If the weather is significantly better on Sunday I may launch then. Adrian if its ok I'd like to use your tower for the launch. -Sean
I've got a D altitude shot planned for Saturday, wind permitting, for D-B Cooper. My more grandiose attempts will be at MHM.
This will be a no-tracker flight, so if anybody could help me spot I'd appreciate it. Looking for 3500'- if the fins hold on. The velocity will be at or beyond the design strength. Flutter is a distinct possibility

Also got some work to do on the Alphabet
Happy to help track the other altitude shots- just find me in the silver Subaru to help.
I'm bringing my 'Quantum Twist' on an H180
A big Nuke on a J280 or J350
and some G''''s
I'll have some motors to fly...and maybe a rocket 🙂

and Fifth on Saturday.
I have a single deploy PML Tethys (renamed Toothless) and a PML Habanero Sudden Rush, which will be my first attempt at dual deploy. They're flying on CTI J210 and J280, respectively.
I also am bringing the Dark Star Lite, which is a little fiberglass kit with a 29mm MT. Looking at fling it up there with a CTI H-90 and H-200.
Except for the Habanero, they all could be long walk events if there's a wind.
From above, it appears that there may be a lot of long walks this week end. The weather is supposed to hit 70 Saturday from this morning's forecast. Let's hope there's little wind to accompany this lovely temperature.
So far, the weather models are showing 5-6 mph.
I'm very excited about the possibility of the I216's being flown in min. diameter optimized rockets. The first time that anyone will be attempting an altitude attempt with these motors. That would be very cool.
Looking forward to seeing the results. I hope the weather will be cooperative that day.
Good luck everyone!

I will be there Saturday all day for sure and I am planning to fly a K or L shot on Sunday but wouldn't be able to get there until 10:15 Sunday morning if everyone is willing to hang around until I show up 😉 I will have it pretty much ready to go.

I used to think the "I" record was pretty much unreachable. Now, I'm pretty confident I can get there with a non-optimized rocket. Adrian will get there with a non-optimized rocket... and then we'll both optimize rockets and increment it again.
Regarding this weekend, I have one major concern - due to a nuance of the design, I can't shear pin this rocket. That scares me. If all goes well, I think I'm over 14K handily. A lot can happen (good and bad) on a shot like this.
Bottom line, the TRA "I" record will get vaporized on an I216 this year 🙂 maybe multiple times. I think the K record is very vulnerable now as well. Ditto for the G. Probably likewise for the F..... all this is because of CTI loads that are coming into the market. It is a great time to be a flyer!
Will there be Nitrous at the launch?

Yes I will be there. Going to fly a couple sugars....i hope. trying to get
things finished.
