Anyone planning on attending Balls this year? Looks like many of the usual suspects will be MIA.
Doubtful for me. The UprOar is history and my new large project is still in the design and planning stages as well as looking for others to join the team. I also figure it's wise for me to finish my L3 and cert before I start in on a P or Q powered bird - give me a little more credibility. Of course, if Joe doesn't get us a 30K waiver for Oktoberfest, I might have to go in order to get a waiver high enough to fly my L altitude attempt.

Not this year for me. Next year is my plan. To much on my plate at the moment. Got some up comming projects for Club Altitude attempts that are research motors class of M, N, O and P. Im SURE I will need all the waiver I can get. Im still working on a couple of formulas ive got to get going as well as the currently flying Blue. Plus a few more Irons in the fire that ive got going so not much for time at the moment.
Con,
well thats great to hear you're keen on research altitude, thats my ultimate interest: designing both rocket and motor. I know we talked some about staging blue to white, I'd like to do both in a single motor--you know, the concentric approach: interior Bates grains of Blue, surrounded by white. I hahven't researched the topic, but reckon theres a nifty way using very light liners on the blue, maybe even partly perfed, and drop these into partially set up white in place of mandrels....
John,
The color change/multi propellant motor has been done. Only person ive seen do it was Pat G. He did a Amarillo blue to his Super Polish Rojo to his Wayside white. Looked pretty cool. Red white and blue.
Ive always been an Altitude Junkie. Way back to the days when NCR was first created and before then. JW and I used to go rounds at the K motor club records. But with my given interest in really mostly research motors Thats what I wish to head towards. What a better way then big motors going really high.
Con,
Unfortunately most of my "novel" ideas have been done, but still think it would be a cool technology to develop....Figures it was Pat G who did it. I'll ask him about it at Balls to see what tricks he used.
I am in a bit of a tight spot in that I have three rooms reserved at Bruno's for Thur / Fri / Sat, September 27-29. Problem is that Bruno's does not have the most elaborate reservations system, and I'm concerned that the rooms will be given to someone else if we are not there in good time on Thursday - reserved or not.
My dilemma is that none of us are getting there unti LATE on Thursday. Will someone be flashing through Gerlach in good time on Thursday, 9/27? If they could check us all in, that would be a huge favor to our group. We'd make it right w/ anyone who could bail us out.
Many thanks,
J
