WOW. I just read the news about Scott Ulrey almost cutting some fingers
off.
Two things.
I am glad to report that He got My THOR X moving before it happened. And it will be here thursday. I hope it was not My kit that did the damage.
I ( 1999 ) got tangled up in a table saw. Blade went across four fingers
on My left hand. Wedding ring got tangled up in the blade. Board tipped
and My reflexes kicked in to catch the board.
8 hour surgery. $25000.00 later I have 85% use. Nothiing I am proud about but &%$* does happen. I had insurance, hope He does.
Makes my left thumb incident not worth mentioning. Power tools bite hard, even after they've been turned off. I sure hope Scott has a good, fast recovery before his divorce wipes him out completely. Just Rockets has been a good friend to lots of rocketeers and NCR.
Funny. 😆 To My Wife, I am 'Tim The Tool Man' One bad goof and I
am marked for life.
When I started launching again. Her face was priceless.
'YOU WANT TO LAUNCH WHAT?' 😯
'YOU WANT TO LAUNCH WHAT?'
My wife says that with just a look. When we were watching "When We Left Earth," and 30-40% of our early rockets exploded, she said, "See, don't feel so bad. It happens." 🙄 I hope that Scott will get through the accident. It happens so quickly. The only good thing about going into shock is that it gives you time to react and stop the bleeding... then the pain starts. As with Joe, it makes the progressive weakening of my hands not so bad compared with what CAN happen. Just a quick story... I was feeling bad about not being able to do the things I used to be able to do just two years ago... until my younger daughter said that her professor mentor had her arms ripped off by a bear... and does just fine now. Amazing what you can live through.
Mike, do you do the Tim-the-Tool-Man grunt, too?
Thats funny.
Yes I guess I do. 😆
Are you guys telling me all those saefty classes that the big Corps. and OSHA make us do are doing me some good. I will not admit it!!
I used many a saw and hammer in my day and havnt done anything dramatic yet. Maybe it was LUCK! Knock on wood. In my older age, I am much more warry of that 2 story climb 😯 on that 32 foot ladder than I use to be.
scotte
Bad deal any way you look at it.
The body is a fascinating thing. We can experience a major injury and not know it. The body either goes into shock or deadens the area in a fight or flight reflex. I studied FBI gunshot reports, most people who get shot do not realize it or know it but think it's only a minor wound. Add drugs or adrenaline and forget it, you will go till you run out of blood and not even know you are dead. On a semi related thing (from the FBI report). Almost all crooks know someone who has lived through at least one pistol gunshot wound and around 90% of all pistol shot people live. That makes them very brave.....
I have a friend who was cutting fencing lumber almost cut his hand off. He made a cut and went to transfer the saw to his left hand, well, he missed it and it cut into the bone. It has been about 3 years now and he is slowly regaining feeling in it. The body is an amazing thing....
A guitar player in a band I played with back in the 70's pulled a radial arm saw almost all the way through his hand (someone yelled for him as he was making a cut and he looked up and kept pulling). It was about 3/4" below the 1st knuckle into the palm and it took a perfect 1/8" kerf out of his hand except for the thumb and first finger. It was his left hand. Took him a couple years to get full motion back and 5 years for him to get feeling back in his fingertips.
Thankfully, my worst saw related wound is hitting my left leg in the thigh with a guard-less worm drive saw after letting go of the trigger. While my leg apparently made a good blade brake, it sure didn't feel good. I was lucky and instead of a groove I ended up with 6 small holes that tore a bit around the edges. The blade stopped quick enough that the points didn't cut all the way through to the next hole. A few stitches and I was fine. 9 years later I have to look carefully to find the scars.
Now if you want to see what a guy can do after an industrial accident with just one hand, check this out....
When my son was 2 1/2yrs old he decided to show Grandpa how good he could shut a door on Christmas Eve. He shut the door great except his thumb was in the way. It made for a very long evening that included watching a World Class hand surgeon, that just happen to be on call that night, spend a couple of hours reattaching his thumb. This is the only time my Mother in Law has been speechless I can remember. I was home working with Santa unloading presents when she called.
Poor Grant he wanted Mom in the XRay room but She was 5 months pregnant with our daughter. Then he wakes up on Christmas morning with no shirt, a cast, and a hell of a Demerol hangover.

hey, guys, i've been out of the HPR loop for a while as i've been in little league baseball mode. who is scott and what happened to him? sounds nasty!
wow, accidents happen. Please, let's all be very careful out there and keep the pointy end facing up.
