As many of you know, the best new documentary on the Apollo program is out and called "In the Shadow of the Moon". On Friday night, 10/5 through Wednesday 10/10, the Lyric Cinema/Cafe in downtown Fort Collins will be showing this limited release film for $8 a head for adults. Since I don't want to take away from Doug Gerard's Friday night at the movies, it might be quite a thing for some of us to descend upon that theatre as a group to see a showing of this movie - Perhaps Saturday evening or the 1PM matinee they are offering on Sunday. If there is interest amongst folks, I'd be happy to call and see about arranging a group discount or at least booking a bunch of tickets in advance. The cafe offers food, regular and microbrew beers and a much nicer ambiance than your average multiplex cinema. This is one of the salient event of our lifetimes - at least for us baby boomers, and I for one am dying to see it. Wouldn't it be a blast to see with a bunch of your best rocket buddies?
Post here or PM me if you have interest. I'll need a reasonable head-count by Monday October 1st.

Warren, I've been trying to schedule seeing this movie in with my trip but I haven't found a way of doing it yet. I would be interested in going but I would rather not try the 1:00 matinee on Sunday, even an early evening show would be pushing it after packing up all the equipment.
I REALLY want to see it in the theater (it will be released in a month or so on cable) and I like the idea of going as a group. Hopefully I could get a ride and not have to park my trailer at the mall marking lot. If everyone would like to do so, I would even be willing to not show my movies or show them on another night if the choice was to see "In the Shadow of the Moon" on Friday night.

I think a bunch of rocket hounds descending on the theater en masse would be an absolute blast. Personally, I could go for watching Doug's movies on Friday night, and then trooping over to Ft Collins on Saturday night for the event. I think there needs to be a poll.....
It turns out that the one, and only, theater in New Mexico showing In the Shadow of the Moon actually starts this weekend. It's only a two hour drive from where I live but since I have so much free time on my hands before Oktoberfest (it's 1:00 am and I'm just coming in from the workshop), I'm going to catch it this weekend. So, I'll still plan on Friday Night at the Movies as scheduled for those interested.

I treated myself to the matinee today. Quite good! only 1:40 long. Neil Armstrong politely declined to participate... the story was told first-hand in interviews with Collins, Lovell, Duke, Schmidt, Aldrin, Bean... I'm sure I left out one or two. I wish Armstrong had spoken, but he is quite reclusive. The others were very respectful of him.
In my opinion, Michael Collins absolutely stole the show -- he was witty, informative, personable... I'd give anything to go have a cup of coffee with that guy. He was not at all bitter about being assigned to drive the command module (hence not stepping on the moon).
The only negative thing I'd say about it is that the last 30 seconds are devoted to commenting on those who think it was all faked. I think to even bring those whackos into the picture was an error. All in all, it was quite incredible, and then it ended with the conspiracy thing.
I may have even shed a tear or two 😕 Sadly, there were only three people in the theatre....
I'm with you on that John. I was surprised they even dignified those conspisracy nuts with even those 30 seconds. I shed more than a tear or two and my wife and I were literally the only folks in the entire theatre... a damn shame that what was THE event of our generation and those that were around when we were kids is now not even getting a modest audience for an amazing movie.
