At least one 1MMM that I know of. Rocksims out to 6900', so maybe 6200' in reality. Trying something new with laminated aluminum fins .030 thick. Started with .003 hardend aluminum shim stock and built it up with an airfoil. Hope it does not shread. 8)
Oooh Bear. I experimented with laying up fin stock with aluminum sheet, but never anything nearly that thin. A layer of 5.6oz carbon is about .008" if compressed and is certainly far more rigid than aluminum or perhaps even steel of that thickness.
I have used .030 aluminum shim stock for fins before and it has worked OK, so far, on G motors. My issue was that I did not have enough gluing area at the root, so last time I laminated hardwood to each side of the fin and pinned it with homemade aluminum rivets. It worked, but I wanted to reduce the drag as much as possible, so I took the .003 shim stock and built up the fin. I left the roots way oversize so that I could laminate it one layer at a time around my body tube as is done with carbon fibre and fiberglass lay-ups. I have some good strength so far, but we will really see this weekend with a CTI G54. I used the extra thick CA that adheres well to aluminum, so 6 layers of .003 shim and the CA finished out at .030. We will learn more this weekend, and from those results, see where we can go.
I've flow bare aluminum .075" thick fins. My problem was bending on landing.

And bending when falling off the table too!
Hi guys,
Were did I put that tent? hehe, sounds like it is going to be a great rocket fun. Chad, glad to hear the contest is still open, I'm your huckleberry! Hopefully...I'm set, for my Alphabet action, so you two watch out! Four Kestral K300 shots, WOOT! I predict 24,655' for mine. Good luck everyone!
Contingency Plan
I am pulling the trailer to the launch.
Last time, even in the mud I had NO problem backing
up to the trailer and getting it to the site.
I could not get the trailer back in its regular place
upon returning it (MUD). And it may still be there.
Anyway. Could one of You Rocketeers who has a four wheel
drive , that is going to the July launch and can tow the trailer
please PM me Your phone number.
I do not expect a problem but with the rain We have received
in the area the last week and what is expected this afternoon,
and with no real dry time, better safe then sorry.
I just want to be prepaired, In case I can not back up to the trailer.
thanks Mike
The trailer remains parked where left upon return from the June event. County Rd 122 should be mostly in good shape. County Rd 45 has a few spots that are dicey but should still be passable if given the chance to dry out a little.
Mike and Bear need to coordinate - I've sent PM's to both. Afternoon thundershowers have been more like monsoons, depending upon which 20% chance of percipitation you've been under.
Bear is doing the towing
6900' even 6200' wow, Bear, that would be impressive for the length of bird. Good Luck! see you there.
Hey there, just checking to see if there will be a Porta-Potty onsite for this launch?
Yes a Port-a-Pottie has been ordered up for delivery Friday evening for the campers.
