Oh geez, don't tell me we had another fire
Yep. Not a large one, fortunately, due in part to luck and in part to the incredibly fast response from everyone when the cry of "FIRE" went out. It was probably 10 by 40 or 50 feet before we got it out.
at a pad? or a landing?
Pad. It took everyone by surprise though, since it did not occur immediately following a launch - it was a couple minutes after one. It must have been smoldering slightly for a while until the wind fanned it just right (or something like that).
Weather was nice, a bit of a breeze below, but at altitude not much. Pawnee is a bit green, but we could use a major rain before MHM.
Thanks to all!
I'll be there Friday afternoon thru Monday afternoon and available for fire control, pushing button, pad assistant, etc.
Is there a current sign up sheet?
By the way Ed, I have dibs on my normal Saturday AM slot from 8AM until noon as LCO. I might even take the noon to 2PM slot as well depending on the crowd - I don't have a thing ready to fly, so I'd just as soon LCO.
I will volunteer to help out on Sunday morning if needed. I can be there at 8 am. I really do not feel qualified for anything, like LCO or RSO, or pad director. I have not done anything like that in years. I did get L2 at the last launch, so those qualifications are in place; the experience level at anything else is pretty much slim pickins'. Of course if someone wants to mentor me, then I will feel much better and will be happy to work.
Looks like the volunteer schedule on the site is still the one from last year. I'll take a shift or two of LCO/RSO/pad manager any time Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning, as needed. Especially if somoene gets stuck and needs a break. I'm not sure I'll have anything to fly this weekend, but we'll see.
I've really only got one flight planned, and it should go up Saturday morning. Once I'm back from that, I'd be happy to help out in whatever way is needed.
All is set up and ready to go
