Well, i recorded it, and can likely get it to DVD if someone really wants to see it. Pain in the arse with my DVR setup though.

I was really excited when in the first 60 seconds i saw at least 5 occurrences of Art, Doug Gerrard, and James Russell (presumably, sorry dont know James by face) or their handiwork (Odyssey twice, one of Doug's camera rockets, and some of his footage).

Sadly, they never came back 🙁 , and the show was pretty low on "science" content, even for the science channel. They focused on the whole thing as a competition, highlighting the now-infamous J drag race and an odd-roc-to-100ft thing. Add in some commercials and re-caps of the last segment, its not particularly engaging.

While I don't think that they put a *bad* face on HPR rocketry, they sure did not do much to convey that a good deal of us have methodical methods, truly understand (or build) our motors, and the thinking and mechanical skill put into our creations. Didn't even get a little diagram explaining CP/CG.

They didn't paint us as dangerous or particularly crazy, just enthusiastic and quirky, which is probably ok. Rocketman Michaelson and Wildman Lehr were ok, and i guess Discovery feel they make for better television antics than Team Odyssey's engineering prowess.

I didn't expect to be impressed at all, so overall I guess it was at about my level of expectation.

now that i think about it, DVD is the hard part for me, but raw 720p transport stream mpeg2 I could bring as a file on data DVD to the launch this weekend. Plays with mplayer or VLC easily enough.

I'm glad someone finally said something. I had hoped to see Doug, Art, and James as one of the features, too. In my humble opinion, it portrayed us as blowing rockets up more than the successful flights we have.

Then it got silly... first one to 1000' with a Aerotech J1999, 2 out or 15 or so, were the only ones that could take 500lbs of thurst, Go Elmer's!!! Wildman built his in 24 hours, guess what happen? ouch, watch out nose cone, motor comeing through.

Actually, they didn't fail because of the power of the motors. They failed because of the motors catoing.

I don't think you could have made a more vacuous show about HPR if paid a million bucks.

The producer should be hunted down and forced to watch it 20 times in succession.

Television, especially Reality tv, isn't for factual dissemination of information - it's for entertainment. I didn't watch; preaching to the choir doesn't do much for me and publicity, good or bad, is still publicity. Like sheep to the slaughter, the general public is basically clueless and until they "find out for themselves" what the hobby can be all about, they'll go with the flow of the biased media feed and suck up the informed opinions of others because most can't think for themselves. pardon the rant - think outside the box and kill your tv.
