Fellow Rocketeers,
Boulder County 4-H is again in need of a judge for this year's Rocket Shoot. Unfortunately, it's extremely short notice. The shoot is this Wednesday (7/27) from 8:00 to noon at the Boulder County Fair Grounds.
I myself was just recruited last night due to some extenuating circumstances, so I apologize for the seeming total lack of planning.
I spoke with a few members of NCR this morning who have commitments for Wednesday and can't help - which is why I'm now seeking a larger audience. I've had the good fortune to recruit a judge from your membership for a number of years and I believe he experience was positive for all involved.
I will handle almost all of the logistics, I just need someone reasonably familiar with rocketry to judge to launches (2 launches per child) of about a dozen kids and help administer a safe launch.
If there is a chance that you can help, please give me a call.
Thank you,
Kevin Taberski

I've got it covered. Larry Haynes called me today and my boss (Vic Davis), another rocketry obsessed fellow, feels it would be a good use of my work time to go do this. I'll be taking a couple of my L3 projects to show off to the kids and I'll take care of it.
Warren
Most awesome - thank you. I've been trying to work out a way to do this event and everything else slated for Wednesday. Go easy on the kids!
Thanks Warren! (and Larry!)
I look forward to working with you tomorrow.

Well that was fun. A bit of a disappointment that only 5 or 6 4H'rs showed up, but there were about 25 kids from some school that showed up. Everyone had a blast and the kids were, as kids do, loving every minute of it.
I took my L3 bird and set it up for the kids to see. Thanks Kevin for the invite to help out.
As Warren mentioned, we had a very thin showing from the 4-H membership, but the 4-H Extension office had offered a summer outreach program to the kids from Casa de la Esperanza ( http://www.bouldercounty.org/help/house/pages/casaesperanza.aspx), so we had 22 more!
So, we had a total of 27 kids at today's rocket launch, each kid launched their rockets at least twice, so we had at least 54 launches! I believe a good time was had by all.
On behalf of Boulder County 4-H and Casa de la Esperanza, I would like to thank Northern Colorado Rocketry for providing such a welcoming and helpful membership along with the forums. Of course, I would like to thank Warren for taking the time to come down today, his boss (Vic Davis) for graciously allowing him the time (especially on such short notice) and to Larry Haynes for taking the time out of his busy schedule to contact Warren (and a number of other members) for us.
I for one had a great time! As always - you guys really rock(et) - I know it's cheesy .... but hey!
A photographer from The Longmont Times-Call was present for a bit today, as well as a videographer working on a project for the STEM program (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) in education. If I receive any notable photos, I'll post a link.
Thanks again,
Kevin Taberski
Glad it all worked out! There's a notable photo in the Daily Camera. NCR members have always been quick to help when we can. Thanks.
Nice photo of Warren (and 4-H member) on the Longmont Times-Call web site.

You know Kevin, you worked with my wife for quite a while - Lea Fisher.
Warren,
Ah - that makes sense! I recall speaking with Lea about rocketry and the big shoots at the Pawnee Grasslands when I was still active in 4-H as a rocketry leader.
It is truly a small world!
Say "Hello" to Lea for me!
