alternatively I could scrub my L2 flight for MHM and just help saturday... can do L2 next month when there is more time.
Mike, Brent, it's just two hours of your time. There's no scrubbing of launches. Don't worry, Brent, no need to put off your L2!
My pop-up blocker struck again. Once I disabled it, the volunteer schedule came up for me.
I'm up for Saturday final afternoon shift and Sunday cleanup
There is no need for anyone to put off projects or flights. All we ask is for folks to step up and take a 2 hour stint at one of the volunteer positions: LCO, RSO, Pad Manager or Administration Tent.
There are 5 slots a day for each position except for Pad Managers which are only needed on Saturday. There are 10 Pad Manager slots - 2 per 2 hour slot.
The jobs are simple:
LCO, announce and launch all the rockets and coordinate the pad managers on Saturday.
RSO, check each rocket for flightworthiness on the motor installed and initial the flight card. Help coordinate the chaos at the RSO table. For this you need to be an L2 or above. In previous events, we've been very poorly served at the RSO table with very few volunteers so that the LCO has had to do dual duty much of the time. We really need folks who will step up and take charge of the RSO table and actually do inspections and sign off on the flight cards before allowing people to load the bird on a pad.
Administration Tent. Take money for event registration and hand out appropriate colored wrist bands. Sell T-shirts, hats. Answer questions.
Pad Managers. Wear a darling flourescent orange or green vest and help folks get their rockets loaded on appropriate pads. One person usually stays with the Estes pads to make sure all the little kids can get their birds loaded without bending the rods. The other works with flyers to find and load their bird on an appropriate pad. IF a rod or rail change is required, the pad manager makes sure it is done properly and that the extra rod or rail is safely stowed and then returned after the flight. No experience necessary except for a brief 5 minute talk with Warren or Ed. If you have hybrid GSE experience (or even if you do not and want to learn), see Warren so you can assist flyers with the hybrid GSE.
Simple stuff folks - not rocket science, but very necessary to making this a smoothly running event.
I offered to RSO Saturday afternoon... I'll try to find the link. With my hands that's all I can do... plus, at 5'7", I'm not tall enough to manage the Estes pads, can't reach them without taking a chance of bending the rods. Boy, is that depressing... 😯 Otherwise, since I only have one flight....
If you guys want them so Bruce can work, I made 2 sets of 4 rail pads that are quite a bit shorter than the clubs. Jeremiah has one and I the other. 😆
I have my kids to myself thurs-sat and have to pick up my wife sat so I can't do much. Im typing this as im driving across kansas - one handed, sorry if i have typoes gotta love broadband cards - i'm bored to answer someones next question......
We have plenty of racks, but nice of you to offer. Plenty of taller guys to man them. I must have been really short-sighted to bring that up. 😯 Besides, I'll give my two hours as RSO Sat. 12N-2PM.
Bruce, I have some stilts you can use that my uncle gave me when he was in the El Jebel. You'll be able able to load birds on the rails without having to tip the rails over....
You opened the door....
Ken.
I know... 😉
8) OH BRUCE, GET A STEP STOOL! 😀
Uh, Tim - he WAS on a step stool.......
(sorry Bruce! You are a big man in our eyes so we know we can pick on you!)
All,
Thanks to all for stepping up. The schedule is filling up nicely and we have enough key slots to make this happen.
No need to cancel any projects or pay for extra hotel nights.
I'll get an email out with the schedule for those having troubles seeing the "pop-up" schedule.
Ed
Uh, Tim - he WAS on a step stool.......
... wearing "elevator" shoes... okay, it's all out in the open. Ed, glad this is going to happen! Now, if the weather cooperates... (in another thread).
Thanks for the list, Ed. Tim Thomas (lawndartman), how can you possibly do shifts and watch the store at the same time? Your wife better be with ya. 😉 Tim, I gotta say that is above and beyond the call.
