I was at the North Site at 1:00. Ran into Joe at the gate. He
said then when the trailer showed up that no set-up was
going to start today.
Friday looks to be as windy. At least most of the day. Set-up
may take place in the afternoon. But probably not till Saturday.
As Joe said. Check the weather. Saturday and Sunday still
looks pretty good. Better evey hour.
Man is it going to be fun.
I will probably run up friday afternoon to see IF set-up
has started and If I can be some help.
I will report back.
Mike, would you do me a favor? PLEASE tell Art that I won't be coming out Friday and staying overnight? If anyone else is going out tomorrow, pass that on to Art, with my apologies. I'm just going out Saturday to get stuff from Tim, DVD's from Daveh, and RSO, maybe get a flight in if there's time. I am definitely in for switching MHM to a June Jubilee or whatever.
While I am as bummed as anyone (having driven 675 miles one way to get here) it is not always this bad. For example, I flew to 23K at MHM two years ago in nearly perfect conditions. June (in many years) is a potential fire ban. I'm not sure what the answer is, but we have had more good years than bad w/ the May dates.
FWIW, MHM I was cancelled due to a fire ban. The next year became the "real" MHM I. We had some nice weekends for the first few MHMs.
We may have a good Saturday and Sunday yet. I am in N. Colorado tonight and the conditions are WAY better now than they were 4 hours ago. Stay tuned 🙂 I'm going to prep a rocket tonight just-in-case...

The Seasonal weather the last 2 years all around has been bad in Colorado. I am hoping the next few years will renew my faith with milder winters and slightly cooler Summers in Colorado, or I may become a snow bird myself when I retire!

I edited what I said, a bit harsh from my being bummed, too. I remember that MHM, JW. The weather wasn't good, it was PERFECT! My first MHM. I remember your flight, super! Winds tomorrow (Friday) will be high, with gusts perhaps up to 55 mph. No way our equipment can be set up in that. I just hope everyone out there will be safe. Saturday and Sunday DO look good though. And for that, we'll all be grateful. BTW, I have that forged eye-bolt for you. I'll get there as soon as I can Saturday morning.
Ken Plattner, our club's Treasurer (xman) and a good friend, has a BS in advanced mathematics and spent some time working on forecast models for NOAA. He tells a good story of when he worked there, and some guy--perhaps the director of his area said, "According to our model it should be 50-60 degrees and sunny." I may have this backwards, but it was snowing at the time. Or, either it was sunny and warm and should have been snowing. The point being made is that statistics are made from historical data. In the past, when conditions were as they are now, this or that will happen. I guess this brings back bad memories of last year when the same guys were out there, and there was a tornado headed their way, and no way to contact them. Fortunately, it didn't touch down again. And, I think they heard it on a radio. When each of us makes it to MHM, shake their hands and thank them.
It's weather. You can't predict it or control it. If one of us could we'd have more money than Bill Gates 🙂 You have to take the good with the bad. Saturday and Sunday look great for flights. Tomorrow might be a little windy. At least we don't live in Wyoming 🙂

At least we don't live in Wyoming
Ha! Doggone it, while I will regret this, I just may go out tomorrow and hunker down with the cool kids, or is that freezing kids? The thing about this is, whatever is decided, we need to be flexible about when we schedule or cancel a launch. Granted, our two big launches a year have vendors coming in and flyers from other states; we have AT LEAST 7 days to decide. And, that unfortunately is decided on statistics. This really is a crapshoot. The only thing worse than bad weather—rain or high winds—is sitting at home when the weather changes to GREAT flying weather, right? Besides, NOTHING is gong to keep me from watching Kent (GLR) flying his rocket, the SLEDGE HAMMER, HOW COOL IS THAT?
I guess I'll see you there at some point in time tomorrow. 😕
Well, hell, Dave, each one of us puts out 100 Watts of heat... Art may need us to keep his camper warm enough to survive. Or, in my case, maybe 75 Watts. 🙄
Wow
9:10 AM Greely METARS says Wind 330 at 38 knots Gusting to 46.
Doesnt seem that windy at my house in Longmont.
Nope, can't make it today. Please pass that on to Art.
I will try to let him know, I came back in do to the wind.
Thanks, James. I left him a message on his cell, but as we all know, reception out there is poor at best.
Just checked the weather, and Ault had a gust of 60 mph. BUT tomorrow should be 55, SUNNY, calm then winds hitting 6-9 mph later in the day. That spells PERFECT!
Was at the North Site. Things are improving.
It is looking good to Saturday and Sunday.
All messages delivered.

Those guys are the diehards that make this club work. 😉 Thanks, Mike.
