Welcome, and thank you!
OK Shunt, I guess I did miss the private message. Call me - 303-823-5059. My name is Warren. Make sure you tell me who you are.
Thanks Warren and I will call you tomorrow.
Sorry that things have not worked out for you and I will always simply be your assistant! You have done all of the hard work when it counted the most.
Thanks for all of your service Warren and your recent help with me. My first DD is in the building cue for maybe a summer launch.
I am glad and appreciative to see a member step into the webmaster role that Warren has done so well. Welcome to the club Shunt!
Unable to do any computer work unless it is playing chess, when the day comes for necessary translation of German Language documents, I will stand ready to jump forward on behalf of the club.
Shunt, regarding the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, I drive by that every day. I read that oil/gas companies are applying to drill there. What do you think?
don't hesitate to call me too if you guys meet - I can help walk thru the existing code 303-258-6475
Actually Jeremiah, it would be awesome to have a sit down meeting to do the handover if that is possible.
By the way, I have knee surgery on the 15th and will be hors de combat for about a week afterwards.
I had a great visit with Bear in Fort Collins yesterday but got tied up afterward and was not able to call you.
Have obtained a BitBucket account as requested by MrTidy and will view the code when available.
A sit down meeting would be fantastic and I am available at any date that is best for you.
Warren, you have taken this site to the absolute heights! There are no accolades enough for what you've done for this club, both for this Web site and as a member. This economy has taken a lot of us out, as well as life's downside to fun in my case, but rocketry will live on. If not in our efforts, DEFINITELY IN OUR HEARTS AND IMAGINATION! 😉 Thanks YOU so much, Warren. 😉
having limited (zero) web sight management experience or skills I've felt rather helpless on the sidelines.
I really do appreciate what you guys are doing. This site is extremely beneficial to the club in my opinion.
Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!
Hey guys,
What Steve said, times two. Thanks everyone.
Hi:
I'm a new member as of last weekend! I am willing to help out with web site maintenance as well (Systems Analyst to support the Webmaster?)
It sounds like one of Warren's frustrations has been the total workload involved to maintain the high quality of the site.
I've worked in IT since the early 80's: Local and Wide Area Networks, Wireless LAN/WAN, VoIP and Video Conference, etc....and have been deploying Intranet (internal), websites since the mid 90's. Essentially a jack of many IT trades...of course master of none.
I do have experience deploying/supporting IIS/SQL, Apache, MySQL (LAMP), and Joomla CMS in a team environment.
If I can helpout I'm willing to do so.
-Greg
Greg, feel free to contact me via PM and we can start that discussion - the more the merrier. We work in a LAMP environment with the codebase composed largely of PHP, Javascript and some AJAX.
Today seems to be my day for apologies.
First, the way I presented this whole topic - as a major crisis about to happen - was less than honest. I took this tack because I was sick to death over the ongoing difficulty this club has in getting volunteers. The same 5-10 people still do everything. Just look at who volunteers to tow the trailer out to the launch site every month - same few guys. In the years since I took over this website, only 1 person has ever stepped up to the plate and that was Jeremiah Johnson. Not only did he step up to the plate, but he brought with him some very high-end professional web development skills. If not for life getting in the way of hobby and family/work obligations, I have no doubt that he would still be fully engaged.
I am not a web developer nor have I ever been - I'm a long time IT Manager and architect of networks. Most of my experience in development is Assembly and C/C++ in embedded systems. While I may have some web skills I acquired over the years, I am far from a web developer. I managed to convert the old pre-2004 website from whatever the hell it was into an open-source content management system (PHPNuke). I had a PHP programmer available who owed me a bunch of favors and he helped build some custom stuff, but in the process we did lose a lot of content from the earlier site. Jeremiah was a god-send and he helped take this site from where I started to a much more professional site.
Now here we are with a bunch of stuff that Jeremiah built that never quite got finished or that should have been updated as contests changed, etc. and we had no available developer. Yet, I KNOW there are club members with the requisite skills. Despite requesting assistance at every annual meeting since 2006, no one with skills appropriate has ever stepped up to the plate aside from Jeremiah. I figured it was time to change that.
So, now we have 2 apparent volunteers who seem to be stepping up to the plate. While I must apologize for my dishonesty, I did get action. I am still on the executive committee and have no intention of stepping down unless Joe Hinton asks me to. ... and now we have some folks who may be able to take what I and Jeremiah have produced and take it to the next level.
PS: By the way, this website has ALWAYS been set up for a minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768. Photo sizes are assumed to be 640x480 max on both the main page and within the forums.
