Trip Barber of the NAR sent out a newsletter talking about the new Federal Rocketry Rules dated Dec 4, 2008.
Trip writes: "The biggest change affecting the largest number of NAR members is that the category of "model rocket" is expanded up to a liftoff mass of 1500 grams and no FAA notification of any kind is any longer required for launches of model rockets up to this limit. Previously notification of the FAA was required for "large model rockets" over 453 grams."

Thanks MIke. Actually, most of us are already protected. NCR has tried to stay ahead of the curveball and our waivers are intact and issued. The Class 3 fliers might have some 'splaining to do but we, as a club function, should have it already covered with all the changes/improvements. New regs don't actually take effect till Feb. and as it is, we are currently covered until end of Nov. 09. I'll try and explain everything/what's up at the January meeting. Stay tuned and keep flying.
