I was at the Longmont Library today and saw that Homer Hickman's book Rocket Boys is the book for the "One Book, One Boulder County" program. They're having a CU Rocket Day on April 12 and Homer Hickman is coming to CU the 17th and 18th of April. More info can be found at http://www.boulder.lib.co.us/onebookoneboulder/

That looks way cool! Anyone planning on attending? I'd love to get an autographed copy of that book.
guys, this is completely AWESOME!!!! I love this book as well as several others by mr. hickam. i'll be there, for certain. thanks for posting this, ron - i never would have known otherwise. brett, you coming?
-greg
Sweet!!! I may have to go, where you guys want to meet?
Art
ok, i can act as social director ... 😀
there are several options here:
- apr 17, 6:30pm, dinner and book signing, $35
- apr 18, 7:00pm, lecture (no mention of book signing, but surely ... ?!), free
- apr 19 (i assume, on the web site they list it as the 12th, but that doesn't make sense), activities from 12:00 onward, no mention if homer will be there.
which do you guys want to do? i'm cheap so i'm leaning towards the apr 18th event - hopefully he will sign books after the talk. if you guys want to do the dinner i'd be game for that too. reply here or pm me and include your phone &/or email addr.
i'm going - hope some of you guys will join me!
greg
I'm all in favor of being cheap, but I really would like a signed copy of the book. How can we confirm if he'll sign at the other appearances?
The book signing time is probably the only time that a book could get signed.
Art
I think you are right Art. I guess I'll figure out some way to be there for that. Anyone else want to go the night of the signing?
i'll go for the dinner/signing. what the hell, it'd be kind of cool to rub elbows with Homer.
I'll also check to see if he'll be signing books at the Friday night lecture.
i'm gonna call some of the major bookstores and see if he's doing any other signings while he's in town
I plan on going to the dinner on thursday the 17th. Becky isn't interested so I would love to hang out with the rest of you guys. I may go to the free lecture as well on Friday.
Homer is only here for those two days, so I get the impression he won't be at any bookstores. You can buy a signed copy of his book at his web site http://www.homerhickam.com
FYI, I have been in contact with him through email and he is going to scan his slide rule for my museum. Cool.
Let me know where we should meet.
Mike
Guys,
Turns out a friend of mine is running these events! Here's what she said:
- The daytime events are in fact on the 12th. These have nothing to do with the library, CU is doing this, and Homer won't be there. Go if you want to see the movie at Fisk (and get a stiff neck!), and maybe win a free telecsope.
- The lecture on the 18th may or may not include book signing opportunities - up to the authoer I guess. So if you have to get a book signed, don't wait 'til the 18th.
- The dinner on the 17th will be a smaller affair - maybe 100-120? Sounds like the food is good, and def. a book signing.
I'm going on the 17th. I'd be happy to order tickets and collect money, or we could all order seperately and just meet up there. I'll check w/my friend about seating - I'm guessing you just grab a chair when you get there so we don't have to order together. Meet up idea - everybody where your NCR ball caps! (We can take 'em off when we sit down so we don't look like TOTAL dorks!).
LMK,
Greg
Everyone,
I talked to Carol Hepke (she said goes to the same church as Greg) at the Boulder Public Library and
I have reserved a table specifically for NCR
(and other clubs like CRASH if we fall short).
7 seats are available and there is a good chance that Homer may sit with us briefly. I will send her a check for $245 today ($35 each) to make the reservation, so you would only have to settle up with me there.
Please send me a confirmation if you are going to sit at this table.
So far committed:
Mike K.
Greg
Check out the book from the library and read it!

Mike, thanks for setting this up, this is great! It'd be cool if Homer comes and hangs w/us for a little while. Sign me up for a seat. I've got 4 of his books, three already signed (you can order 'em signed off his web site, my wife started a tradition of getting me one every year for my birthday), so I'll bring the unsigned one to the dinner - plus may have to buy another one just for good measure! Back to the Moon sounds kind of cool ...
