Ken Reilly will be holding a vacuum bagging class in Longmont at 1400 hours (2:00 PM) on January 21st, 2012 at Centerline Power, 1910 Pike Rd, Ste. C. Anyone interested in learning the procedure is welcome. Please contact l.haynes@cenpow.com for information or to RSVP so we can be sure to have enough space. With only one pump we can bag a single demo bird which we have. A visit to the Tasty Weasel is on tap after class. In the event of inclement weather or poor driving conditions class will be postponed to a date TBD.
I've offered and taught this class for years. Best turn-out was 3 guys - and that with my wife's cooking involved no less. (She catered the last 4 annual meetings)
I wish you success with the class and would be happy to assist with the class given that I'm probably the most experienced in the club from an amateur perspective and have done more v-bagged projects that have been flown by NCR members than anyone else.
By the way, I have a full vacuum-bagging rig for sale including pump, hoses, vacuum gauges, many yards of bagging material, sealer tape, peel-ply and mylar release, and breather material plus all the little dodahs necessary to v-bag projects up to 12" in diameter. Art Hoag has had dibs on it but I haven't heard from him since November and I really need to get this stuff out of my shop - taking up too much space. Oh yeah, have a bunch of carbon fabric, fiberglass and perhaps even some Kevlar. If I show up to the annual meeting I will be happy to bring it if I have a buyer.
Maybe you should check your e-mail.
Larry and Ken,
Thanks for hosting the great vac bagging session. It was very informative, and the CF layup on my Kestral turned out great. Nice to see that we had a good turnout, with some guys pretty new to the hobby in attendance.
Your efforts are much appreciated.
I trust everybody learned something and it was fun. Ken's really patient. It would be good if small groups of 5 - 12 people could get together to do classes on various points of interest. If anyone wants to put something together for e-bays and/or GPS classes I'm in.
yep!
The vacuum demo was really an eye-opener. Ken showed the right way to do that and the input from others was helpful.
I agree, other classes focused on aspects of construction would be quite appreciated by those of us who are methodically trying to climb up the levels.
My current project involves building my first dd and av bay! This may take a good long while unless another similar activity is organized.
Even though the music was loud at the Tasty Weasel, and I had to take off sooner than I wanted, it was a great way to bring the Saturday fun to an end!
Thanks to Ken, thanks to Larry, and thanks to everyone there who asked the questions that were on my mind as well.
Larry and Ken:
Thanks for hosting and teaching this class. Since I know nothing I learned lots!!!
I've put together some notes from the class. Please take a look here and let me know if I need to update anything.

Wow!
What a great presentation! That is an easy way to see all of the steps. Fantastic job for doing that Greg!
Wow! I wasn't there but didn't miss a thing with this excellant presentation. Well, actually, I missed the comraderie.
I knew there were some pretty sharp folks in this club of ours - time to step it up and pass the information along. Thanks to Larry for hosting, Ken for doing and Greg for recording. Totally impressive!
Great presentation. I was with James Russell, Scott Evans, and Steve Mashburn that day. Being the sorry limitations of being human, I could only be in one place and not two. I really appreciate the slides, the video, and NCR University. You guys are great, and it is a source of pride an joy to know a bunch of really remarkable individuals.
Thanks, greg for a clean & professional presentation. Now we just have to invent something so we can do it again- too much fun, great bunch of guys. And thanks, everybody for coming. If anyone missed it and wants us to do it again we can.
I've seen Ken do this twice now. Ken has successfully de-mystified vacuum bagging. I am ready to give it a go!
Thanks Ken and Larry.
