🙂 Also keep in mind that UROC will host HellFire on July 13-16. I Know several NCR members will be there. And I can tell everyone first hand that the UROC bunch is a fun bunch to fly with. And there will be no Fire ban on the Salt Flats. They also have alot of contests, NCR members have been winning more than their share of. Lots of Venders, lots of good deals. Check the UROC site for more info. 8)

Yep - I may well fly my SSS at hartsel if the burn ban lasts any significant length of time. Still, with any luck, it will rain some this summer (it certainly rained 2 years ago 🙄 ), and we'll be able to resume launching relatively quickly.

That has been discussed, but no decision was made. Currently, the only valid site to fly the SSS or SSSS at is either Pawnee North or the Atlas Site. If we do get a burn ban, I will discuss with the executive committee and post an announcement on the front page.

Fire Restrictions in Place on the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests

Fort Collins, Colo. - Acting Forest Supervisor Jackie Parks issued fire restrictions today which prohibit building or maintaining open fires or campfires and restricts smoking on National Forest System lands in Boulder, Larimer, Clear Creek, Jefferson and Gilpin counties. Fires are allowed in developed recreation sites such as campgrounds or picnic areas.

“Conditions are very dry and the fire danger is high. We need everyone to help us by complying with these restrictions," Parks said.

These fire restrictions prohibit:
• Building, maintaining, attending or using fire or campfire, charcoal, or wood stove except within a developed recreation site such as a campground or picnic area. The use of petroleum-fueled stoves, lanterns or heating devices providing such devices meet the fire underwriter’s specifications for safety is allowed.
• Smoking except in an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.
• Welding or operating acetylene or other torch with open flame.

Violations can be is punishable by fines as high as $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization or imprisonment for as long as six months, or both.

Spark arrestors are required on internal and external combustion engines and fireworks are prohibited on National Forests by other regulations.

Larimer, Boulder, Clear Creek, Jefferson and Gilpin counties, as well as Rocky Mountain National Park and many other land management agencies, also have fire restrictions in place. Please check with these local jurisdictions for details.

It was my very clear understanding that SSS and SSSS shots *must* be flown at an NCR event. That was the way it was set up last year. In changing over the website, I don't see that now. If that is NOT the case, then we'd have chaos... Very hard to administer, officiate, etc.

As the rockets are less than a lb. and less than 4 oz. propellant, they could technically be flown anytime/anywhere (they are model rockets under those parameters). Too many venues makes for an erratic, hard to administer situation.

I have the first year's SSS rules on my other computer, and I'm traveling now--- but I can tell you that it was explicitly stated in those rules that the launches had to be at an NCR venue and an NCR event. I personally don't think flying them at TCO, C.R.A.S.H., etc. should be allowed... nor do I think that I (or anyone else) should be able to roll out to the N. site in the middle of the week and let one rip under the model rocket rules. To officiate this whole thing, we specified NCR sites.

Yes indeed I do John, though to be honest I don't remember the rule - it does make total sense and quite frankly, I don't want to deal with administering flights made outside sanctioned NCR launches. Thanks for reminding me.

I thought this was the case as well, but no harm in someone asking. So far no one has flown--just a lot of BS and conjecture, right? So I move that whether stated explicitly or not, we agree that all flights must originate during a sanctioned NCR launch from either atlas or north.

By the way, I would add that if all remaining launches are cancelled this year due to fire ban, that the monies paid for the SSS and SSSS roll forward into the 2007. Just in case...

I'm all for that. I already spent what the pot is in getting the MAWD and motor... plus the sundries a rocket requires. The thing that keeps killing me... is that we are all striving to go the highest... and that increases the risk of losing my first MAWD... ah, such is life, a gamble. 🙂 I definitely should have gone DD... but didn't... 🙄

I'm not too worried about that happening... I plan on flying in December if I have to wait... but I will fly.
