I remember you said that, Warren. Way to go! Except for really being sick, I was allowed to stay home from school starting in '59/'60 to watch launches in black & white. Never missed one. Hope Lea is doing well, and getting back to the thread, will see all there Sunday!
Not to hijack a thread, but I must tell you all about Atlantis. At T+8 hours.... I am still SPEECHLESS. It was extradordinary. I just don't know what else to say. My wife and I were on the causeway, about 6.5 miles away. Sean was at the visitor's center.
It was pretty much sensory overload. I looked at videos later, and one thing came back to me -- the most vivid thing about the whole launch was the intense light. It was brighter than looking at the sun.
I may come back for one of the next two launches 8) Yowza!!!!!!!!!
How do you get tickets? I thought they were all sold out. Do you have to have tickets to be on the causeway?

We bought a tour package that took us onto the causeway... it was about 2x the cost (ended up costing us $100 extra - $50/ea for my wife and I) but we were good to go. I'd say there were maybe 300 cars on the causeway, and probably 200 buses - so most of the tix were tour packages.
The next launch is the last one that has public access. The causeway is closed for the final launch.
This was a "bucket list" thing for me. I'm so glad I did it.

Tell me where to go for the next launch. I thought they were all sold out.
But I guess they dont go on sale till 6 weeks befor the launch. I guess.
May be the bigest thing to go up in a while.
Back to the cleaning....
We are still on, but it is a muddy, muddy mess out there. We will likely set up inside the barn to stay out of the mud.
Fell free to come by, but be forewarned if you have an aversion to overly wet dirt or the smell of horses.
Probably getting started about 9:00.

I know, how sad is that?
Well, I'm not adverse to mud, but physically I can only help so much, and the more you have there, the more mud is going to be tracked around. Not to mention parking on your land to the left coming in; I don't want to rut it up. Love the smell of horses though. I guess I'll decline unless needed.

Scott, this was the tour we took:

PM or call me and I can give you the nitty gritty on things. Basically no way you'd get one via NASA - and why not leave the driving to someone else, anyway? The NASA Causeway tickets were something like $65 and this tour was $115 per person. You are physically within 1/4 mile of where you'd be if you were lucky enough to snag tix directly from NASA. It appears NASA gives the vast majority of tickets to tour operators, anyway.
Thanks to everyone who chipped in to help with the cleaning day. We have everything clean and ready to go for MHM!
In no particular order, thanks to Ken Sherman, Ken Plattner, Ken Reilly, John Reilly & friend, KayLee Reilly, Warren Musselman, Warren DeBelle, Dennis Billings, Ron Dreasher, Fred Hower , Mike Hacker, Mark Stumbaugh, and Dave "Greywolves" Bishop.
We can’t have club or a launch without the generosity of people like you!
Many Thanks.
