I was on a site today where some guys were using pyrodex, I believe "P" powder for ejections. Worked pretty well. I remember when I was a kid in hunters safetyclass, the instructor lit some smokless powder on the table. Flash ooo ahhh!!! He said that if it had been Bkack Powder "We should be runnng for the door"!! My Dad(always the engineer laughed)
he said Black Powder unconfind wasnt that much more dangeous.....
Any powder confined would EXPLOAD
They said pyrodex when taped up and yes confined was very effective.
Has any body tried anything besides 4f???
scotte
Here's a site for using Pyrodex compared to BP: http://www.pratthobbies.com/info_pages/pyrodex/pyrotest.htm
Notice the difference in whether it's loose or contained. When it's contained properly, looks about the same. I've never used it. Geez, I bet it's the same site... those are the canisters I personally use for rockets K and under. Works every time.
yea thats the site
So where can one get ffff bk powder around here? I have 2 core sampled rockets from using pyrodex. Of course I just substituted it for 4f and before Ive seen the video. But now im very nervous using it again no matter what.
The Blunderbuss on Colfax in Denver sells 4F BP to rocket guys:

Worst case, if you need BP, someone will have some for you. Check with the club prez, Joe Hinton. He always has some to offer, and if he's running low, I'll give you some. No big deal.
3f workes well for me. could not find 4f here in cheyenne.
remember to test. each powder is a little different.
Bass Pro has some. Just have to ask at the desk.
Edward
Yup Bass Pro has it and so does the place that Bruce mentions.. Remember to get your Muzzle loading supplies......That time is comming!!! 😉
I always use 4f.. Never Pyrodex, or 3F... Just had best luck with 4F..
Last can I bought was from Tim at Giant Leap right on the launch field.

There's a gun store right on the east side of College in Fort Collins that sells 4F.
One reason people will look at you funny when you ask for 4F is that it's basically only used for flintlock rifles and then largely for the priming pan. Way too energetic for anything else. The coarser grinds are used for various weapons. I knew a guy who had a BP shotgun and he used 3F and not much at that. I had a BP .50 single shot pistol that used 2F many years ago. Large cannons back in the days before modern artillery used quite coarse powder.

Nope... The place in Ft Collins is No More. The Main Owner Passed away. His son didn't want the business so it went away. The Name of the place was called Rocky Mountain Rifle Works.. Bummer deal. Been in there a million times. Its where I used to buy my 4F.
I went to the Blunderbus one day and the door was locked!
Just a bunch of junk inside. 🙄
So I ordered some online from a place back east. Problem was, it was a minimum of 5 pounds to order. So I ordered some meal "D", 4F, 3F, and some 2F.
I figured the coarser stuff I would use for Guns and Cannons. 🙂
Considering, I am not trying to hold off the British at Bunker Hill,
I could probly loan some. 😉 Just let me know what Flavor.
