Nice launch today up at Hartsel. The weather was fine until it wasn't, about 1pm. Maybe 16 or so cars, three vendors, and maybe 40+ flights. Nice mix of low power, mid power, and high power. Think the biggest motor of the day was a K, but not sure. A bit more laid back than a Pawnee launch, and seldom were rockets announced, so I probably missed some cool rockets.
I had three good flights chasing some altitude records and a successful scratch built dual deploy. It was the third to last rocket launch and just about touched the clouds at 2600'. By the time I walked back from the rocket recovery, just about everyone was packed up and within 10 minutes there was lightning and hail. Aspens were starting to turn color so the drive was nice too.
Adrian and David took some photos, maybe we'll get a link here. Dave (graywolves) launched his Apogee Aspire on an F-10, and it seem to be a nice flight but didn't get a report back from him.
Chad
Lucky for me Chad has super vision, or I may not have found my red, white, and blue aspire again. Third time was the charm at getting her off the ground, thanks to the talent of Adrian for twisting and swirling the ignigtor into place. What a great flight, loved how long the motor burned. Seems the streamer is more for a visual, thats if you can see it. Some minor damage to the bird, 1-fin took a little beating, and the shock cord tore into the body tube about 1/8 of an inch.
I enjoyed talking with everyone today, and watching. Picked up some good tips
Jeff had some really nice looking birds form apogee, thanks for the help.
Thanks to COSROCS and George.
Is it October yet, i thought i was hooked before, hehe
David
And wish the weather hadn't turned bad in the afternoon.
Still, I had a great time. It was fun seeing the assortment of COSROCs fliers mixed in with NCR. I'll definitely do this again, maybe shoot for camping out as it's a moderately long drive too and from Longmont.
Learned that bigger parachutes are needed at altitude as I popped a fillet on my Long Brandt.
Thanks to Dave H for witnessing my Level 1 Cert!
I need to build more things before Oktoberfest!
Also thanks to Tim of GLR for engines, and the other vendors.
It was a great day, Got my L1 cert on the miranda(black hole) on a I236 blue streak apogee at 2941. Also got the L2 cert on the modified magnum(dragon's breath) flying on a J360 skidmark with apogeee at 2657. Thanks to Dave H. for the witnessing of them. Then went out today and it was warmer and nicer than yesterday. Crashed Dragon's Breath due to the shroud lines on the chute breaking and the rocket coming down without a chute. Still have to retrieve altitude on that one. Flew it on a J415 white lightning. Minor damage, only need to shorten it by about 5 inches.... I was surprised by so little damage...rocket came down flat.
