Hey fellow NCR'rs .. How is everyone. Sorry about Octoberfest, I was really hoping to get out and see everyone again. Wasn't ready to fly anything, just visit. Work has been tough since moving back here in June, but construction has been tough for years .. especially this time of year.
I do have a new project that I started when still in GA but never got far on it. I do have all the centering rings and bulk heads cut and some glass and epoxy. I'll be using H.D. sono tubes again .. cost issues .. so can pick them up when it's time to start. I am in an apt now so nowhere to work .. like with the Delta II in '04???
This is the Proton K, a Russian rocket: see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proton_rocket
it has external boosters but they are molded in and won't be detached in flight. To make it -extra- cool, check out the launcher assembly .. that would be very cool as well. See pic of it being raised into place at: http://spaceflightnow.com/proton/sirius2/000904proton.html
Just cool things we could do.
Anyone interested in working on this at some point in the future, and anyone that has space to do so, just let me know.
btw .. design has a 12" dia body, 6" motor mount main .. it's a nice size project. Maybe we can get it done for the big Spring launch.
Thanks,

smashrocketry.com is not active now .. lost all the files in a issue w/ GoDaddy .. but I'll start loading files on it again when I get a chance .. I still have all of the old ones somewhere.
Welcome back, Steve!!
The Proton is a horse... can't wait to see it!

Steve,
I'm not sure a Rooskie rocket is the right messenger to send up for what we can accomplish as a club but I'd be interested in helping with the project.
Welcome back to Colorado.
8) I want to see the DRAGON FLY!!!!! 😀
Welcome back Steve!!!! Good to see you back in the land of real waivers. I still remember the Delta II project and hope we have an opportunity for another big project soon.

Yea .. it is a little redundant as it's very similar to the Delta, but that's OK .. there are enough differences .. plus I think 2-stage might be nice 🙂
You think there is a way to 'tuck' the upper stage's fins in so they are 'hidden' for lift, and they 'spring' out upon seperation .. now that would be different. We have some really smart people in this group so I believe we could find a way. And a motorized launcher to lift is would be so cool .. especially when displaying it on the flight line.

Welcome back to Colorado.
Thanks Joe .. I'm thrilled to be back. Wish the work scene was better. At least I got aother job yesterday so was only off 3 weeks .. but it's construction so by T-Day I'll likely be off again.
I'd love to get started this fall/winter on the Proton, repairing the Dragon so it can fly again, and getting the Delta from Chips and prepping it as well. We may not be able to fly them all, cost wise, but they'd look awesome on display at MHM 2011. The big deal is finding a place to work .. like we had Chips house for the Delta. I'd really like this to be up here though, northside. Keep an eye out for deals .. shops to rent, garages, etc where we can bang and drill and maybe my band can practice there as well .. cheap of course .. $200/mo woulde be nice. I'd think some the small towns might have empty space that just need to be rented. Thanks!

Me too .. that was a blast! and it only needs a little work to be ready.
Fingers crossed.

Thanks .. land of real launch sites with real 'active' clubs and a real community. This place and club are very special.
Yea, the Delta was amazing .. I will never forget that experience. I learned that we are so much smarter as a group than individually. I really could have used that on the Titan and the Dragon .. though the Dragon did come out well .. but these really complex projects need a lot of eyes and a lot of ideas. The Proton will as well. That's why I hope we can do up here, Louisville to Loveland, so the Northsiders that missed out .. or had to drive so far .. can get involved easier.
Know anyone that has Peter Always Rockets of the World? I could use the 'real' specs on the Proton if they are in there. I'll put smashrocketry.com back online and start that part of the project at least. See what kind of response we get.
Thanks, see ya soon
