Im thinking of a single deployment.
The first stage booster for the Qauntum Leap is virtually ready to go.
It was originally designed with moter ejection (of coarse since the sustainer used the duel deploy).
Literally all I have to do, is attach the interstage coupler to an upper body tube (which I have) and attach a nose cone(as simple as glue). I could convert it to zipperless but thats more complicated.
I'm not sure I would use it for any thing else. I dont intend to build another sustainer for it. Ive learned alot in the last couple of months, and with the Qauntum tube, and the short motor tubes its not the rocket I thought it was.
The Qauntum Leaps biggest motors would have been a couple of "J'' motors. Max 10,000 ft. on both stages.
If it doesnt die on first launch, 😉 maybe it would be a nice every day Rocket to launch on cheaper "I" and "J" motors (for as long as the Qauntum tube will last). Anybody ever try one of those fireballs to help stop zippering?
Anybody else get L2 with motor ejection and a single Chute?? (I still got two good legs)

Fireballs work. I've never had a zipper with one. I did my L2 with a single chute and no dual deploy. Wish I'd gone dual deploy, but that's just me. Currently, you don't need to use dual deploy for L2.

Thats the second time you have written, saying you wish you would have done duel deploy on your L2 Cert. How come??
Me, Im kinda fat (OK a lot fat) and need the exersice myself.

Scott, it's just that you need to nail that before you move up to L3. So, it took some time for me to get the hang of it. You'll have to do it at some point, but not now. Just go for it! I have never used quantum tubing, but Dennis Billings zippered his L2 at either the November launch or Oktoberfest, right down to the fins with that tubing. Make sure your harness is long enough to take some of the shock. Good luck!
The fireball has worked well for me (3 out of 4 times, anyway 😕 ) The 4th flight had an early eject and the chute pulled the harness quickly down the side of the airframe before the ball even hit the end of the tube. The ball ended up tugged 4" down the harness by the "cardboard slot". One bad ejection led to 3 zippers... ouch. All is well now with a glassed repair. Next bird is all glass... got it for Christmas (from myself 🙄 )

I did the Kiss method for my L2 and did motor ejection. used a 38mm J350 and a PML 4" Endeavor on a motor ejection for a successful L2 flight. Thats been MANY moons ago well before the days of NCR..lol.... Ive never used a fireball. Never had any zippers either (so far) (knocking on wood).. After seeing what happened to Ken I don't think anything can make them not possible completely. Quantum has less chance to zipper then phenolic or paper tubes do. Ive flown my 4" Endeavor (Quantum tube btw) on motors ranging from and H 242, I357, I435, About every J under the sun. And even a few K motors(from Aerotech, Kosdon, AMW and CTI) with altitudes as high as 12K. Its flown both single and dual deploy and it was not zipperless design. Just my experience. your mileage may vary.
