Telemarketers are a nuisance and deserve the short and simple brush off - click.
My favorite response is from Seinfeld when he received a telemarketer call, and he said, "Give me your home number and I'll call you later about this." Or something like that. Ken said he had a really good experience with the BATFE. I'm next, guys.
I had a very good experience with the BATFE. After reading all sorts of posts about how painful and long the process was I found it to be just the opposite. It took about 60 days total.
Ken.
Ken, I'll be seeking your help in filling out the paperwork, as soon as I find someone who will be my storage. I know Tim Thomas or Jim Amos are options, but I'm looking for someone closer. All I need is a new passport photo. My passport is still active, but I'm wearing glasses, and I don't think that's allowed now. Walgreens, here I come! You know, guys, it's not the agents we have a problem with; they have a job to do, and from what I've heard, the current agents are just as Joe said, people just like us, some of them EXCELLENT rocket builders and flyers.
As far as I'm concerned, the agents are great. The gal that came to my house to interview me was very nice and professional. Very pleasant to work with. She was however very serious with respect to the details and requirements for record keeping. And rightfully so.
Bruce, the only thing that delayed my permit was that I specified "motors to be purchased and consumed on-site" for the contigency storage section of the permit. The ATF agent didn't really like that and suggested I find an alternative, even though I wouldn't actually be using the alternative. I think that they just want to know there is someone who can store propellant in case it can't be consumed on-site. And even then, all I needed to do was fax her the form specifying the alternative storage.
The agents are people like us. Treat them professionally and with respect and I think you will get the same in return.
And don't forget, SMILE for that passport photo!
I just got my permit in the mail with no call, visit or anything. It was 3 yrs later that I had a visit and it has been over 2 1/2 more years and I have not heard a word. I am going to start my paperwork for my renewal in a couple of months. I hope it stays the same as it all ways been, no hassles.
hey, guys, for the newbie here, under what circumstances do you have to get a leup? i've bought some motors from joe at hobby town with no problem; i can also buy motors from tim at a club launch, right? so why all the hassle?
thanks,
greg
it is all what you want to do. I topically fly M and bigger and also participate in research launches so it is something I need. If you have access to the motors you are flying with out a LEUP then you may not need to or want to. once you start flying motors that you need to have shipped to you or you need to store motors larger then the 62.5g's then you may want to get one.
not everyone needs one and if you need help getting a motor or storing one for a short time there are people that will help you out.

Tim (An ATF Guy) called today and met myself and my Wife at our Home.
He was very nice, professional and thorough.
It lasted about an hour. he asked questions part of the time and
informed part of the time.
I anticipated him not knowing a lot about rocketry. I had three of
my rockets on display. A 29/40-120 case, a Pro 38 (4 grain) case and an RMS G64 reload on the table.
When the topic of propellant weight came up, I grabbed my scale and We weighed the G64 propellant. So He could gauge 62.5 grams. G64 grains
weighed at 51.5 on my scale. Aerotech site says 62.5. My scale is off a
little. Regardless of weight. He was surprised it was so little.
He had to work around some of the wording. It was hard to explain giving
a LEUP to a guy that launches rockets. He did a good job.
He urged Me to consider getting a storage LEUP in the future. Stating it
would probably help me out in the sport.
I am getting my LEUP. Should have it in a month.
One sad statement. We talked about the Court Litigation. He said..He
had been informed it was now LAW. I have not read any place that
a Judge anywhere had went with the Feds.
Have You??? Hope Not!!
Thanks for all the Help. All my paper work was filled out correctly. Thanks
the the NCR forum and the NAR web site.
Yehaw. Sit by the mailbox and wait for it. Should come in about three diffferent envelopes and then you'll need to make copies and post the original where the world can see it. Congrats. To the best of my knowledge, NO decision has been finalized by the courts. Everything is still pending, as far as I know.

I think the court or decision date is 7/27 this summer. Both sides have submitted their final arguments... so it's wait and see.
7-07 is the date that the judge will revue everything and see were things are. it is not judgement day, would be nice if it was but I would think it will go a bit longer...

I would not want to be the one pressing that point with them.
James, you're right. It's not law. The only thing the BATFE can do is try to enforce "regulations," not laws--only Congress can enact laws. And until APCP is determined legally to be an "explosive," they really can't do anything. Bottom line. If I want a LEUP (and eventually, storage), I better shut up. 😯
Still have not got the paper work in the mail. From June 20th.
Called my ATF Guy today.
He said He would see If He can make some phone calls and get it to me by Oktoberfest. Everything looked OK. Just the back log.
Hope - Hope
It sure may put a wrench in my flying. One must look at the BIG picture.
Tim the ATF Guy called today and said my license would
be put in the mail in three days.
I should see it sometime late next week.
