It was a very nice day at the North site. There was a cert or two, and some notable flights.
Sean Serell flew a G-to-G on a nice boost that claimed a Tripoli 2 stage record of 9,200'. IIRC Sean said he had a 12 second delay on lighting the second stage. It was *very* cool.
Hats off to Adrian Adamson who had a MONSTER boost on an I600 to over 16K. Unfortunately the rocket came in hot, but the altimeter was beeping away. It was an utterly straight, energetic, outstanding boost. Incredible shot Adrian!

Yes it was. Great weather and Great People.
Here are some pictures.
There is one pic. of a lost and found piece of electronics.
What is it? Or was it. If it is Yours, You sure can have it.

Thanks, John. You had some very sweet looking Performance rockets today.
Congratulations, Sean. Even though it's the first record, I bet it will last awhile.
Here is a quick Youtube of the liftoff. Thanks to Sean for shooting the video with my camera. The flight was 2:37, so if it took 30 seconds to apogee, it averaged 87 mph on the way down from 16,379.

Both charges went off, and the apogee charge did its job, but my friction fit to hold the main in was too tight, so it never came out:
Just as an FYI, NCR does not have the capability of tracking records for anything other than single motor, single stage, non-clustered rockets at this time. While we would like to do so, we do not currently have the programming resources to expand the altitude record application within the website to accomodate that. Until a new programmer steps forward to assist with this, I can offer no timetable for this upgrade to our website's capability.
Tripoli does and I highly recommend you apply to the TRA Altitude Record committee for the record.
Warren
Yep, we signed off on Sean's record and got the paperwork headed to TRA. My hunch is Adrian will be back at the drawing board for the I boost as well.
One of the odd (but good) challenges for altitude geeks now is that so many new motors are being certified, it is hard to commit to building a rocket because by the time you get it done, there will probably be new motors out that will be more suited for your project -- and they may not fit the rocket you just built.
I think I'll start on a K project, size it for the K350, and cut it back if/when new and better motors come out. This is a great problem to have 8)
Great pictures, looks like everyone had a blast. Didnt have the Aspire done yet, so decide to work and do some catch up here around the house. That giving me 2 more weeks to get her finished. Hopefully she just got her finally coat of primer, little sanding, then some color. It was very helpful getting to see the pictures, made me think of several other things that would be nice to bring, CHAIR and table maybe. oh yeah and a shade tree, hehe, j/k.
did make me a 15 volt power source box, light weight. Although looked like you guys had that all under contol. Haven't even got to use the new launch pad and set up, just did igniter test. Not a one black mark yeta
Again great pictures!

Yep great day! I wanted to thank John especially for loaning me his tracker which was definitely required. I had a nice shot on a 29mm G to G (I designed this rocket on H to H but the casings I needed didn't arrive so I stepped it down). Hopefully I can get it launched with the H to H before Adrian gets time to work on a staged project (thanks for letting me use your tower as well!). -Sean

um Dave
I built one of those!
Dont spend to much time finishing it!
If you see it come back, it tail lands..... with a streamer.....damage 😕
If you dont..... well.... you dont......... 🙄
Good point about the streamer. Our launch sites have so much space, there is incentive to use a parachute to slow it down to <30 fps. I've got a custom 8.5" X-type parachute, and the readily available 10" X-type would probably be just fine too. Do you have RockSim to get an estimated decent rate?
Then again, there is so much tall grass out on the prairie, you just might have a nice soft landing.
Chad
Tall grass yess.
My Pawnee Arrow fell from 6000' or so on a 36" drogue.
A 5" by 7' duel deploy. It only broke a 4" piece just below
the nose cone. I was pretty amazed.
Right now the grass is pretty forgiving.
Thanks. I have not yet tried the rocksim free download, do lots of you guys use it? would you recomend it?
Maybe i try both, stremer for visablity and a smalll chute. To much weight?what do you guys think, the streamer is like 54" long. I did order one of there recomended motors, F10-6T, sayes it has a 7.2 sec burn, WOW.
Speaking of motors, figured i should by a RMS. I would like to stick with 29mm motors size, G's and smaller. SO is the Areo tech RMS 29/40/120 would do E16 through G64, is this good idea? what do you guys use/who's? do we have people that sell motors? or where do you buy, local, online? I bought a few other Single use motors, hopeing for more than one blast.
Thanks for the break on the prairie
David
Hi David,
Rocksim is highly recommended. I don't build much without it. If you only build kits and only by the instructions, then you can probably get by without it.
The Aspire is pretty cool, i had one I flew several times, always about a mile high or so. I never saw it land, but I found it every time, thanks to the streamer. Too much dog barf one flight and it came in hot and broke in half. Maybe I'll fix it one day.
You should consider that you can get a full set of CTI 29mm hardware for $160 - 1g through 6g with 4 or 5 different loads for each case. That will take you up through an I204 in 29mm. I don't know what thyat buys you in RMS, but it can't be more than 1 or 2 cases and a set of closures.
Yeah... the CTI 29mm case set is a great deal and you can fly more motors than in any other brand. The other really nice thing about Cesaroni motors is that they basically light first time everytime if you get the igniter up to the top of the motor. That Pyrodex pellet is great.
Warren
I fly the RMS 29-40/120 motors quite a bit and love them. I really like the f52 loads. Price is very cheap for reloads. Tim carries most reloads at the launches for these.
Only thing I recommend if you buy this case is buy the wrench for the rear closure. I dont have one and use a thick glove, but what a hassle.
Thanks. I have not yet tried the rocksim free download, do lots of you guys use it? would you recomend it?
RockSim? Yep. And, Tim Thomas, from Giant Leap, is our main, onsite high power motor dealer. But he also has the 29mm casings and reloads. In fact, at MHM, he was the only one in the country who had them. Those who bought them were the first to try 'em. They really are impressive! E-mail him at tim4glr@aol.com, and he'll set you up, David.
