Hey john do you have any links or pics of what your are talking about as I belive we are looking for the same thing.
Con,
heres an example of what I was looking at--could be bigger round, but like the CCD >= full NTSC standard, auto irising etc.

There are more and likely cheaper sources for the same thing...

Guys,
I just bought the Boostervision Camera with flat patch antenna off of the ROL auction for $90, the package lists at $120-$130. In my limited testing the images are nice, I will be testing its range and shakiness factor when I attach it to my R/C car. The range is only 3000' but I dont have to have a amateur radio license at this juncture. In my mind the problem I see is that these devices are specialized, I have looked for a transmitter/receiver package that would transmit any data given to it whether it be telemetry from sensor or A/V from the camera(s) or both. I have not yet found it.
I've been fiddling around with a hybrid device by Radiotronix. The Wi.232FHSS-250 is 250mW, up to 7 miles line of site, 2400-152K baud RS232 wire replacement. The modules are $40-$60 ea. depending on the packaging version. They use the 900-916 Mhz band using frequency hopping spread spectrum - no license required. The device handles retransmission transparently and it is used effectively has a replacement for a serial data cable.
I plan on using it to transmit serial data down from a GPS unit on my birds.

I wonder if it might not make sense to have an "Oktoberfest projects" page? I won't be there 😥 at least not early Saturday. I may be able to fly a little something on Friday, weather and burn bans permitting? My guess is that there will be a lot of SSS and SSSS attempts! I hope so. That may be the next time we fly?
On a related note, I encourage everyone to look to Hartsel as a possibility. Hartsel is a wonderful venue, not that far away, and as the field is on private property, fire bans are less of an issue. Check 'em out at http://www.tripolicolorado.org/ James Russell, NCR member, is their prefect. $5 to fly for the day, but consider joining them outright as they are needing some support! Waivers are 6K, except 12-1PM they have a higher window, to 14,200'. TCO is also very active in the EX arena. I'll be at their next launch, July 22.
JW
I'll be there as well. In fact, I'll be towing the launch equipment to the site and helping to set things up. Hope to see alot of flyers there.

I will also be attending the TCO Launch on July 22nd. I am in the process of finishing my new Hawk Mountain Raptor. I plan to fly it on an I200 at Hartsell. Should do well over mach 1 on that motor.
What did you have in mind JW about a projects page? Curious as i think may be a good idea. It would help with knowing what all is in the works for that date.
I could readily set up a projects area for folks...sort of mini-web pages for projects, though I can't promise it would be ready before Septemberish given my travel schedule.
Warren
Warren,
I personally like the idea of a projects page but I'm not in favor of the kind the LDRS pages are based on. Maybe just a page with a single photo and description.
Doug
Warren,
I'm with doug--kiss, enough room for 1 or 2 pics, none of these 40 photo vanity publications of mundane stuff like how I built some L3 kit starting with a picture of the box sitting on their door step--I mean its fine that people get so enthusiastic and all, but do it on their own site...People can always PM for addt'l pics/details.

🙄 Under the flights of intrest heading, Bruce S and Dave W and I are drag racing 3 of the new Rocky Mountain Thunderbolts from Giant Leap. These kits are glass bodied 38MM screamers. We are racing on J350's. The Thunderbolts simm. at 10,000+ This will be a Heads Up flight! 8)
Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt, eh? When do we get to see details about this new GL kit?
Well, it started at MHM. We were sitting aroud in the wind, talking about having a small, fast, and very sturdy rocket that you could fly over and over again on H and I motors. So we took a 38 Thunderbolt to start. We changed the tubes to glass, added a Bell tail cone retainer. The shock cord is Kevlar with a Kevlar heat pad. It uses an Acme fin can, and a heavy duty nose cone. The whole rocket is simple, and very tough. Dave and I built the first one in a afternoon, and sent it up on a Pro 38 H153. Fast, straight, and way up there. I am going to Hartsel on July22 for the TC launch and I am sending mine up on a I300 blue thunder. I added a Alt. to mine to get some real info. We will post more info as the test flights cont. 8)
