These shots were taken on Saturday.
FYI - Walking on the road, Jon Skuba counted 45 cars and 17 campers on site at 6:30 AM Saturday and 121 cars and 21 campers at noon. I'm not sure what time those exceptional aerial photos were taken but WOW!!!
I can see my truck in the first picture and the edge of the hood in the second. I'm probably LCO at the table in the first.
Warren
I can see my car/tent in the first one way down at the North end.
I imagine I'm in the field somewhere.
Cool shots Doug.
It turns out that someone I work with is an avid hunter. I ping'd him this morning and he sent me this:
"Thanks, Chris. I had quite a laugh on Saturday morning!
I was that hunter who set up his hunting blind just a quarter mile down range from the launch site and right next to the windmill and stock watering tank that is just off the bottom edge of your photo. I had arrived Friday night well after dark and hiked in to set up my blind at 4:30 Saturday morning well before sun up; without any moon or ambient light when I hiked in Saturday morning, I was totally surprised at dawn when I looked to the west to see at least 25 RVs, as many tents and at least 100 folks milling around next to launch pads. Well, it didn’t take me too long to realize that my favorite antelope hunting spot (I started hunting next to that windmill in 1990, and have shot a number of antelope from there.) was not the place to be in 2008. So, I relocated my hunting blind a mile and a half or so to the north and had a good view of the launches and folks chasing the re-entry rockets across the prairie. [Don’t know that I would be brave enough to be walking around looking for rockets on opening day of hunting season and without wearing blaze orange, but it seemed like everyone was having a good time and no one was injured by either flying rockets or bullets.)"
The photo he is referring too is Doug's first photo above. He just stopped by and we had a nice chat.
I showed him some photos and he was definitely impressed with the scale and the safety measures put in place.
First two pictures. I'm far right on the first and left of center on the second, behind Art's setup area and camper. Mike Konshak's truck is in front of me, near the road. Doug, how cool is this? Excellent! Thank you!
Here we are:
Ken
I had to shrink the first image so it wouldn't be so big on the screen but the others are just cropped but original size images of a few sections. I did get enlargements to send to Brent and others. Joe asked about the time they were taken and I think it was about 10:30 to 11:30, definitely in the morning.
Doug
Time's about right, Doug. I can see my rocket all prepped behind my gray Element. Gray is such a "brilliant" color, so easy to spot... video wouldn't show it.
