Cruddddddd. I was putting a little color to fins of one of
My rockets. Grabbbbbed some of the old paint I had laying
around and decided to use it up.
I know not to mix brands. I know not to mix brands.
Orange Peel and Cracks. It will still fly. It was an older bird.
Just a reminder to all us rattle can people. Do Not Mix Brands.
😳
lol, i hear ya. I just painted a rocket with flat white on accident and then with gloss white. Of course serious orange peel. Just a little wet sanding and all is fine.
Orange peel? Orange peel doesnt happen from using different brands. The effect of orange peel comes from lower layers not having correct surface prep and they have a texture of that like orange peel or even dry wall Spackle that has been knocked down semi smooth/flat but still has the textured look. Do you mean it wrinkled up and cracked and lifted? This isnt so much about brands as it is chemistry and type of paint. Like trying to spray anything on top of a lacquer based primer or paint as it reacts with most anything. Or having to much wet paint not dry fully even though the touch feels dry its still releasing solvents and then you spray more on them and it reactivates the stuff below. Yet finally the other issues with spray can paint is they do not catalyze. There is no hardener in the paint to cure them and they cure only by means of evaporation of the reducers/solvents in the paint. When spraying a new paint on top you will find that its solvents reactivate the dried paint below. This can cause a reaction as well. You can take a rag with Lacquer thinner on it and wipe a rocket that has rattle can paint on it even a year after its been painted and it will remove paint from the rocket. Try this with a catalyzed paint system and this wont be the case. Sorry about the babble. Just wanted to share. I guess that happens when you do paint for a living. LOL
Oh, yeah... by the way, Conway knows everything about paint. He IS the club's paint guru... not to mention a few things about rockets. 😉
Yes 'wrinkled'. Just like My 'Pug Dog'
Thanks
Scott,
You have to stay away from those SPAY paints, they could get you in a world of hurt......
Only if your a girl Greg. Had it been Nuder paint he would be in BIG trouble.
I figured the spay would be more problematic for a guy...... No equipment to work on in the first place, who knows what would end up missing for parts. OUCH!!!! Dang those paints can be troublesome.... 😳
