For any who followed my many questions buried down in the 'construction' forum, the maiden voyage and 2nd were successful.
HPSoD is a 3" x 25" (stubby) rocket with a 3x24mm cluster. I had posted questions about the lug sizing (3/16" made me nervous, but worked just fine with no rod whip).
The homebrew relay launcher with car battery worked flawlessly with INSTANT ignition of all motors, both flights. First time using that as well.
Flights were from the upwind (east) end of Sandstone Ranch ball fields east of Longmont.
The first flight was a 3x D12-5 cluster. Flight was quick, straight, but with parawad recovery. Seems having the shock cord and parachute both wrapped in the kevlar blanket is a no-no. 1lb from 1000ft hits hard, but luckily into soft grass- no damage.
Second flight, I put only the chute in the kevlar, but with some wadding to try and protect the cord. 3x E9-6 cluster just kept going and going. Eyeball approximation of 2000ft. Successful deployment and recovery less than 100yds from the pad. Had lots of kids come running to see what was going on! Elastic half of shock cord burned, so will replace and make it 100% kevlar. Only damage was severe charring on base of rocket around the motor mounts. Maybe a cluster on a flat (ceramic tile) deflector isn't the best idea! I'll clean it up with the Dremel and get some high-temp aluminum brush-on paint to protect it. All paint and filler down there is GONE, into carbon crispies (sounds like rocketeer's breakfast cereal).
Thanks to all who answered my questions. Hope I can make it to Oktoberfest!
