Ed,
With Oktoberfest a day or so away, it looks like we're slim on RSO's for Friday. You're the only one. I'm already down for 4 hours plus raffle stuff this launch, but I'll volunteer for RSO from 2-4 PM. All I need is one flight earlier in the day. If that spreadsheet is up to date, then people aren't stepping up, and that's not right. An hour of volunteer work is required in order to fly at this launch, what's up?
If I was going to be able to attend on Friday I would defintily put my name in the hat. But Im looking to see where I can toss my name in some more.
Right now everything hinges on the weather and My L3 project as well as trying to help my daughter with her L1 cert flight. After that Im pretty well all yours. If I have to fly Sunday I will be glad after I am done to serve as some RSO duty. If I get my flight off on Sat. Then I will be out and RSO for the first 2 shifts. I wont be able to stay long As I have to drive and take my daughter back home to her mother and then back north to my home.
Conway
Hey, Conway, you already doubled the time required. You're cool. You're a very welcomed old member. There are only two new names on the list as it stands, that's me and Ken Plattner--who towed the club trailer to and from the last launch. He's already a good and valued member. I'm not the most overbearing human being, but any flyer who hasn't volunteered is going to be asked--especially if they're L2 or above, why they aren't helping out when I RSO. 🙄
As I understand completely from ages ago (or so it seems anyhow) that its those that step up (wich should be everyone thats qualified) that are paying the way to retain such a great club and launch site with great equipment. People dont get after it and someday all those that want to just be flyers may find themselfs without a way to do so as a club could be lost. Not saying thats what is happening. BUT the volenteering goes for launch duty as well as even Exec commity term. The people serving now on the Exec commity are people that have been doing it since what seems the dawn of time. We need more caring and well abled individuals to step up to the plate and get after it. Just what I feel though im a hard ass on that topic. Ive always had that belief.
Amen, my friend. This club is at a crossroads. Each member pitches in their fair share, or we fall. The diehardest of diehards are going to be setting up tomorrow afternoon. I should be there, but I can't, and I'll make up for that. The beauty of this hobby is paying forward. And, hey, that's volunteering and giving of yourself so others can fly. From Joe Hinton to all the names on the list and others in the club I've learned this. And, it is key to keeping this hobby alive. We can't all be great LCO's like Joe or Warren--and many others (Ken Reilly, I share your shyness of the mike, but you do great), but we can push the buttons and strive to be. This is a family by choice. I'm going to meet with key members this launch to plan a NAR event next year. If we can't put up the volunteers for one of our two big events, then it won't happen. I won't put my reputation and the club's on the line, if it won't be successful. I can't believe we're even talking about this after the January meeting, but please volunteer NOW.
All,
Neither my son nor I are certified, but we can chip in as needed. We both know how to carry stuff! 😆 We'll be up Saturday.

8) Ed and Bruce, put my down for the RSO from 2-4 Friday Tim 8)
I would like to do something to help on Saturday. I will probably only be there from about 9-2, due to a child care limitaions at home. I really don't know what is involved in the various positions, but if the 12-2 RSO position still needs to be filled I would be happy to do it, as long as someone can brief me on what to do :). I sent an email to Ed but I thought I'd post here too.
If you're L2, you can RSO. L1, you can LCO. And there are PLENTY of people who will welcome your volunteering and stand by you while you get the hang of things. 8)
Also Ed if you need more Pad management duties with the smaller stuff my Daughter Danielle would love to pitch in there as well.
