Folks, there are a large number of flyers talking about doing L3 cert flights at O'Fest. This will be a bit of a logistical challenge as James, Art, and I will also be flying / vending / etc. Can you please PM me here or email me at iflyrockets (at) comcast.net and I will try to choreograph things with the other TAP members.
Note that procedures, supervision, etc. is different for NAR vs. TRA. Please advise if your cert is NAR or TRA. Note also that I am trying to get info only on L3 certs due to the time challenges, etc. they entail. L1 and L2 certs can be done more easily without as much coordination.
Good luck to all!
Finished the fillets tonight. Will foam the fin can tomorrow and paint by the week end.
I take it Level Two Testing and Certification can be done without undue planning before Oktoberfest?
Is there anyone in particular I need to contact as a Tripoli member (Joe Hinton?)
Thanks in advance!
Regardless of the level of Certification attempt, I'd sure like to know about it and end up with the paperwork so everything/everyone's gets sent in together. Yes, L2 tests for NAR and TRA can be administered on site. TRA members remember to bring your Handbook - NAR members bring paperwork. Have your rocket(s) checked before and after flights by appropriate witnesses and don't let it fly without them watching.
Barring any serious problems, I plan on flying my L3 cert on Friday afternoon. Details are: M1419W motor, 5" diam., 109" tall, about 35#.
John is one of my TAPS, and although I never got full commitment from a second TAP, I have spoken to James and Art about it in the past.
Warren.
We have something like 7 or 8 L3 attempts slated for O'Fest. Between the other M's that have been talked about, we may have well over two dozen M flights + a couple of N shots. Hopefully Mother Nature dishes us up some nice weather!

How did you manage that Warren? Perhaps the rules have changed in the last decade but I had to have both TAP's approve the design in writing, before I could begin building. I guess it helps the have the TAP's your friends 😆

This project has been on the bench for 3 or 4 years now and multiple TAPs have had their eyes on it over that time. Just never got around to finishing it for flight and actually scheduling the cert flight and inspection and such.

Good Luck to you an all L3 attempts!

We will have an M drag race this year - Chris Frazier and his dad are going to do their L3 certs at the same time. It should be interesting as they have identical projects with identical motors
Now that I think about it, I think everyone should do their attempt at the same time 8)

We're going to need more pads 😀
I'll throw my hat in the ring...just brazed the fins to the fincan....next...packing 10 pounds of recovery gear into a 5 pound bag.
