In spite of the weather - an epic event. Before I forget to thank everyone involved, Praise and Thanksgiving to all that ventured out. Huge thanks to Mike Shinn and Dennis Billings for range set up assistance on Thursday. We were ready early Friday morning for just about everything. And thanks to all the volunteers that helped with Registration, especially Debbie Billings and Dave Smith, and to all of our RSO's/LCO's - Ed Dawson, Ted and Colin Apke, David Bishop, James Russell, Art Hoag. Apologies if I've missed anyone.
Preliminary results - Friday - 20 flyers/48 flights including a L1 Cert for Rich Wallner and L2 Cert for Jordan Russell, GI Joe deployment (twice) by Rick McDonald and some Alphabet action.
No flights on Saturday - weather not even a Snow Goose would like.
Sunday - basically a half day of waiver available for 28 flyers to boost 50 flights, including Dave Hanson's L3 Cert, Adrian's TRA record shot for an L to 32,014' and the Valkyrie Squadron's awesome flight.
and on Monday - 15 flyers put up 41 flights including the 3/4 scale Nike Smoke on an O, Bill Taylor's rapscallion to 28,132' and more Alphabet Clone action - Mark Stumbaugh has started the chase and got thru C, Bear completed G's and David Bishop completed H's.
Even bigger thanks to Dennis Billings and Mike Shinn and Tom Martin and Vic Davis and David Bishop and Carl Battles for help clearing and putting away the range.
I'll get cards posted in a few days - send me extra info on your flights if you've got it.
On my L shot, the Raven said 31,514 feet. The 32,014 initial reading was my error when punching the Telemetrum meters into my calculator to convert to feet. The actual Telemetrum altitude was 31,972. RASAero predicted an altitude in between those two. I haven't been able to get any recorded data out of the Beeline GPS, so I'm sending it to Greg so he can give it a try. However, I likely erased the flight from the Beeline accidentally, when I powered it up again after the flight to download the Telemetrum data. I didn't realize that it starts to over-write data immediately upon power-up.
Big thanks to the many people who helped out with my flight, after I left my bin of tools and supplies at home. Especially Mike Shinn and Joe.
How about a BIG thanks to Joe Hinton The Main Man, The Go To Guy, The Motor Master,Mister NCR, The man who puts the Rock in Rocketry.
You put in more time, effort, preparation and planning before the event even starts than most will ever know.
Many Thanks to you Joe ❗
GREAT O'FEST
Dennis,
I second the motion!
Joe, your efforts are appreciated more than you can possibly imagine.
What's more, Joe sticks his neck out for us too! If we screw up with the USFS (Mr. Ranger Sir!) or the FAA, they don't go to you or me, they go to Joe because his signature is on the paperwork. I also have it on good authority that after the weekend is over, Joe goes back out to the range and police's the area for micro-trash, the stuff that gets overlooked or things like popcorn being spilled all over the place or the little peices of nichrome with the tape on it from ignitors of low power motors and those fancy colored plugs that hold the nichrome in place. I know others do this too as the range is being used or put away, and thank you for doing so, but he does it so that his name remains good and our name, Northern Colorado Rocketry's name remains good. He is one of my heroes and one fine guy. As things are currently, I am unaware of whether we could have the great launches that we do without Joe's efforts and I have no idea how we can ever repay him. I am certain words are not enough. Pardon me for gushing. Joe, when you are not at a launch, you are sorely missed. Thanks Joe!
