What can you guys tell me about places to watch the Perseids this August 12/13?

There will be no moon to interfere with a darksky site. What are the rules on my family wandering out to the North site?
thanks,
As I understand it, going to the grasslands is like going to the national forest. Open to everyone anytime. You just cannot fly rockets. You could probably go to the Atlas site also without difficulty. You can also head out to an area that is free of houses and other light sources and park on the side of the road. For me, (living in Wellington) I would head north up 287 to Wyoming. TR on Pumpkin Vine Rd. and go a few miles. It should be so dark there you will not be able to see your hand in front of your face. Also, Larimer County, CSU, and the city of Fort Collins own the north half of the county from CR 82 north and from I-25 west to 287. This is where some large ranches have been turned into conservation easements and there will be no one there. There are lots of spaces you can go to watch. You could even go up U.S. 36 towards Estes Park and pull into a camping area or onto a forest service road and have a great view, just watch out for the wildlife. 🙂
I had a fantastic night at the North site with Glen Colon-Benet and John Wilke and John's amazing scope. Talk about dark and clear. I must have seen two dozen galaxies and deep sky objects.
