The 120" chute can do 58 pounds at 15 ft/sec. If you want to go slower, we need to upsize the parachute. The parachute is ~8 yards of fabric. I'm guessing the parachute would be between 3-4 pounds. I would say that you try and give as much room as possible for the parachutes - much easier to deal with more room and less chute than trying to stuff one in and increase failure chances.
If you want to go with something in the 10fps range we could do a 196" parachute. That one is ~17 yards of fabric. It would weigh between 5 -6 pounds.
For either of them I'll need a good month to get them made. Once we decide it would be awesome if I could come down and lay out all the material flat, cut it and hem it together there where there is room to lay it all out flat.

Cool, I'll have a confirmation on weight soon .. this month. I'm sure we can clear a space for you at the hanger. It'll be fun .. we have a real good time down there. Another great group of guys .. like w/ the Delta.
I'm very time limited this time around - I have a 3 year old who consumes most of my time on the weekends.
Another question - what rail/guidance system are you using? I'm pretty sure I can turn any type of button you guys need.
Edward
If you're using a 1515 rail, I still have several sets of 1515 buttons turned from 304L Stainless Steel. I'd be glad to donate them.

Thanks Warren .. do you know what Doug uses for his rail? I assume it's 1515. If I end up building my own rail I may have to go Unistrut .. cost issues.
Unfortunately I'm having some complications from my surgery last month and am back out of work. Went to workers comp Dr today and back to the surgeon tomorrow. Hope I'm back in action by the weekend. Things are really starting to come together and it's really exciting.
Doug uses 1515 rail, at least the last time I helped set up his pad.
I've created a couple of T-Shirts on Cafe Press to raise money for the Proton Project. I've marked them up from cost by $10, all of which I'll use on the Proton Project. They're costing me about $21 each so selling for $31, or so. I have a Delta II and DragonShip shirt and am working on a Titan IV shirt.
Right now CafePress is having a sale and have marked down the shirts and provided a coupon code for further discount. Go to:
http://shop.cafepress.com/delta-ii or http://shop.cafepress.com/dragonship and select the shirt. At checkout enter the code "PINCH30" for an additional discount. It drops it to below my cost ... not sure how that works, hopefully I still get my profit for the proton. Anyway, not sure how long the sale is or how good the shirts will look .. but they look good online. I ordered a couple and hope to have them this weekend for the Sun build session.
Steve
Getting the Team Proton shirts going now as well .. here are the designs ..night liftoff goes on back. Looks best on a black shirt ... which are unfortunately even more expensive .. sheesh!
I modified the main image .. like this one better ..
Hey, wait a minute! Is this a rocketry forum or a clothing/attire forum? 🙄
Can we talk about this in the open dialog forum? Next you will be trying to hawk caps that say "Team Proton M" on them, and charm bracelet trinkets for the ladies, and on and on. Saturday nights will have Proton bar-b-ques, and other things. There will probalby even be a "Team Proton" charity golf tournament making all proceeds go to the "Team Proton" charity. Who knows what else is going to be thought up, a bowling tournament, a charity walk, rallies, raffles, etc. I just do not know. It could get overboard real quickly!!! 8)
Bear: not to pick on you specifically, but.............
Steve has raised less than 1/3rd of the cost of the *motors* so far (and they're at cost). Then there's the tubes, wood, fiberglass, paint, etc., etc.
Can't blame him for trying some other ideas for raising money...
Hey Rich, my apologies if you detected any seriousness in my comment. My tongue was firmly planted in my cheek. I know this is an expensive proposition. If anything, I was hoping I could be advancing other ways that would coincide with the T-shirts. And I intend to purchase one when they are ready. Maybe a sign up sheet would be good so that Steve knows how many to get and of what sizes. (Steve, I need a 2XL and maybe a medium for my grandson, so you have two sold) It will be great if others can find a way to contribute funds for this endeavor. My best is to contribute time and abilities. I plan on coming on Sunday. Will you be there? (And that is a serious question, no joking or mockery involved.)
Steve explained to me that CafePress is unique in that the shirts are printed to order -- there's no minimum "run", so there's no need for a sign-up. I just went to the web site last night and ordered one.
I will be there Sunday, and I'll bring sodas & snacks & sandwiches again. See you then! Bring a friend, too!

I have one of each on the way and will bring them on Sunday to see how they came out. I'm wanting to change the Team Proton shirt before I really put it out there. Also, those should just be for us. I can make another that says supporter for friends. donors, family, etc..
That's the great thing about CafePress .. we can make as many different versions as we wish.

Even I can do it.

hehehe .. yes you did, and we really do appreciate it. You Ken and Rich have helped keep this going. In the last two weeks we've gone through 2- 4x8 sheets of 3/4" plywood .. these project can be costly. Now we're collecting for the motors and the paint .. 2 big expenses, but luckily down the road a bit.
Thanks again!!
OK Bear .. one more and then I stop .. 🙂
