Got to work on the motor/fin assembly today .. came out great. Just need to cut in the MMT's ... a central 98mm and 3 - 75mm.
Nice Steve!
How did the tubes turn out from the previous weekend?
Let me know if your working Saturday, my brother is in town but I think I am just meeting him for dinner so I have a few hours I can kill.

Tubes came out great .. ready to sand down a bit, especially the seam/lap .. and then apply the 4 oz wrap. I should have the motor mount tubes by Sat and will get the MMT/fin assembly finished and start on the outboard motor mounts. Also want to build the motor mount assembly for the sustainer and start looking at interstage options.
Lots to do so I will definitely be there unless I get called to work .. very rare occurrence.
Thanks!
I'll be working on the Proton again this Sat. More glassing and hopefully more work on the motor mount assemblies. We have a grill and were thinking of having burgers or dogs for lunch.
Let me know if you are coming ..
This will likely be the last weekend for a few weeks .. I will have surgery for a Hernia next week and be limited for a few weeks.
Thanks, Steve
I'll try to be there. Any tools I need to bring? Are you starting at 10?

Yep .. shooting for 10 am and bringing deli meat and rolls for sandwiches .. gotta eat this time (more than donuts). We should be good on tools. We could use some sandpaper to sand down the seams on the tubes we glassed so we can apply the 4 oz glass next. I have 2 orbital type sanders and 1 belt sander. Probably some 150 grit and some 400.
See ya!
Another great day working on the Proton! (Steve, Bear & Rich)
Rich and Bear (in Hazmat suit) working on tubes ..
Thanks for your help guys .. you were great!!
I wish I could help! Seems though that my second job always interferes with my Saturdays. Good luck on the upcoming surgery. Hope to see you back and ready to build some more. Keep us posted and I am hoping to find a free Saturday to join the fun.

Thanks .. and I hope you get a chance to join in too .. it's fun and quite a learning experience working on a big complex project. I'll be out of work 3-4 weeks, but should be pretty mobile by the 2nd week. I hope to get up there more often .. maybe some weekday afternoon/evenings and/or Sundays as well. Need to take advantage of this 'time off' if at all possible.
Just a reminder, I have been updating my site, www.smashrocketry.com, with all the Proton progress and a lot more pics. It would be a bit much to post it all here. I've also added the Paypal Donation link for those wanting to help out financially with the Proton Project.
I also have pics of my old projects like the Delta II, Titan IV & DragonShip, as well as info on upcoming projects, like the Upscale Little Lunar Express.
Check it out!
The Delta II was one of my most seminal rocketry projects. An experience NOT to be missed. Steve knows how to do a big project and pull it all together (John Wilke is another) and you will learn more as you go and feel more accomplished than even the most extreme solo project. Do IT!
So I'm getting around pretty well now after my surgery and will be building again next Sat in Longmont. MMTs are in and we can do a lot of cool stuff. Let me know if you're interested. All skill levels welcome.
10am to ??? . Want to be done early enough to get home and clean up for the All Rockets Dinner in Northglen at 7pm.
Steve
I am planning on being there, bringing gifts. A dozen offset thrust rings for six offset motors. Just finished them a few minutes ago. IN my next life I have got to get me an heated garage. I think I am getting frostbite on my hands and I can see my breath! 😯
Boo Hoo, Woh is me.
8) Bear,
Just a thought... If woman found you a little more handsome, you could be a little less handy! 🙄
Any idea on the finished weight yet? That way I can start calculating the parachute size(s). I'll need at least 4 weeks lead time to make them.
