Hello, my name is Brad. I was invited out to Oktoberfest and had a lot of fun. I am planning on joining as soon as I can. My questions are more about the high-power cert. I am very interested in hybrid rockets, but am confused about using them for certification purposes. On Tripoli's web site it says that hybrids are now approved for cert. flights at all levels by a board vote at LDRS in 2000, while in my handbook it says that they are only approved for level 2 and higher. I just joined Tripoli earlier this year (but I have been flying for the past 12 years, since I was 8), so it is a fairly recent handbook. I am just a little confused about which is accurate. I have a PML Orion Hybrid Ready nearly finished, and I am hoping that if all goes well I can go for my cert flight at the December launch. Also, is there anything that I need to know about flying at NCR that isnt covered in NAR or Tripoli's safety rules? Thanks in advance for the help, I cant wait to fly with everyone.

First - Hybrids are fine for cert flights. Most definitely. Of course you need to have your electronics act together as far as a deployment controller and most folks don't do that until at or after their L2 cert.
Second... Welcome. Hopefully you are coming out to the launch tomorrow. The December launch can sometimes be an iffy thing weather-wise. Also, you don't want to try flying hybrids when the ambient temperature is under the mid-60's and preferably at least into the 70's for decent performance.

Brad, welcome! I am sure that the book you have is new but was printed some years ago and is still out dated. The use of hybrids for L1 flights was not possible until companies like Sky Riper making smaller motors. Sky riper has 29mm, 38mm and 54mm motors going from like G's to K's. A good source of info on hybrids would be Edward W, he is Alpha Hybrids and is also a Sky riper dealer.
