Well get that burr out from under your saddle and come fly with the club! You can fly high power with NAR or Tripoli. No need to do both unless you want to get into research motors in which case you will need to be Tripoli Level 2 or above to fly. You WILL need to get certified though through either org to fly high power (H and above). Not sure what you mean by "bench racing" but you are welcome to stop by my place in Longmont. I'll show you my fleet and all of the associated hardware and stuff.

I'd love to drop by up there sometime next week. I'm really involved in some Corvette activities up through Nov 4, but after that I can start building some rockets. I bought a few kits from hobby lobby, mostly to get parts. I need to learn about certification. I would like to go to NARAM-50. Are any of your members active in the nAR contests?

Mike, we held our first in a long time NAR contest last June. CRASH in Denver really concentrates on NAR contests primarily. But come to our launches because we launch everything, from the smallest to the largest motors. Man, I thought I had a low NAR number! Welcome!

If you want to get in with some serious contest folks, you might want to head south a bit as well down to CRASH. crashonline.org I think they might even still have a contest on the books yet.

I went to the CRASH NAR regional with a tool box full of rockets that I built over the last week and flew my first rockets since 1961. 70% of the birds performed as expected, so I have a lot to catch up on to be competitive against the guys in CRASH. I joined their club while I was there. I already have my NAR and TAR cards, so now I need to join NCR.

I'm in the middle of constructing my 1st HP rocket, a PML Callisto, for Level 1 Certification, which I hope to achieve on December 1 at NCR's club launch. the fins are on and I just need to seal up the motor end and attach the piston and nose cone. I plan on using a 38/240, but I am at that point where I want to put on the motor restraint. I saw at John Nelson's home a screw-on restraint that I would like to use. Any of those around?

Joe at Hobbytown was supposed to order me a motor, but evidently he no longer works there. Does anyone have one they would like to sell?

Do I leave it naked or should I paint the bird?

Is the Callisto good enough for level 2?

As far as motor restraints (positive retention), Aerp Pack has them, but you'd have to order it. However, Tim Thomas of GLR might be able to get you a 38 mm Slimline, which does the same job. Put a post in the new Vendor Section and address it to him. And, he can provide you with the case as well as the motor. Those he has on hand. Plus, he has L1 cert deals.

Not as familiar with PML kits as most. But a Callisto'll do an L1 easy enough. As far as using it for L2, it depends on the room for motors. A J 38mm case can be pretty long. You'll have to get a response from those familiar with PML kits on that.

No for L2 on a Callisto.

As far as motor retention, PML makes a 3 point motor retainer that will fit that bird, but you need to install the threaded inserts before you install the aft centering ring. They're about $10 or $15 at Hobbytown.

threaded inserts with the clips that you hang a mirror with work great in that rocket. I'd advise using new ones as a wife might not like you taking them from current hanging mirrors. They're maybe a buck and available at my favorite hobby shop - Home Depot. Two of them bad boys and you're set. And you don't have to go to Hobbytown.
