Does anyone have a estes colonial viper unbuilt that I could copy exact dimentions off of?
I got the JimZ plans but I need exact templates and dimentions. Like all plans, they do not show all the specs needed.
May do an upscale of this rocket in the future and want it exactly like the original.
If you send my the plans I can scale them out in AutoCAD.
Edward
Ok thanks to Edward I now have the exact specs for the wings.
Now I just need the lengths of the body tubes and the nose cone. If anyone has this rocket built or unbuilt and could measure these parts I would greatly appriciate it.
After seeing some of these on the net, its now an obsession to build one soon. Mabey a 4x by MHM.
I just need the lengths of the body tubes and the nose cone.
check out http://www.rocketshoppe.com/info/Estes_Body_Tube_List_3.1.pdf
page 16 BT-50W 9.50", BT-52S (3) 3.938", and BT-20J 2.75"
for the nose cone on page 4 http://www.rocketshoppe.com/info/Estes_Nose_Cone_Reference_sm.pdf
Kit Number 1310 Colonial Viper The PNC-50SV is identical to the PNC-50X, only it has a molded cutline used to create the forward scoop.
Right on, thanks for the info. It does not show exact length on where the cut on the nosecone is but ill look at more pics and guess. Since this doesnt need to be perfect, it should be close enough.
Thanks again all for the help
Ok I got a really wild hair decided to build a 3x one out of parts I had laying around. This will be considered semi-scale because I will be extending length 6" for more stability. This is fiberglassed phenolic tubing with G10 fins. Should launch on a I300 or some kind of J.
Most likely use duel deploy on recovery.
If all goes well, I may just build a 5x or 7.5x sometime in the future.

Looking very cool.
There's one on e-Bay if you need more pictures: http://cgi.ebay.com/Battlestar-Galactica-Colonial-Viper-Clone_W0QQitemZ190357157521QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2c522bb691 😉
I found 2 excellent sources for the vipers. These 2 gals have been great help. I thank all for the help from everyone on here and on the net.
Thanks again.

Ok now this really is becoming an obsession. I now am building a 1/2 and a 1.6 scale. These are really fun to build.
I think if the 3x flys well with no probs, Ill build a 4 or 5.5x scale.
The new ones...

That's a really cool obsession! Nice work! When you upscale to where you fan fly someone in it, I'm only 5'7", and I'll do it! Just add some controls...
Lol, the scary part of that is ive thought of how I could put myself in a rocket. That would be a fun rocket to fly in though. Of course the image of that full size X-wing flight makes me shudder.
Ed Dawson has this dream of building a full scale Mercury Redstone. I'd definitely like to ride in that one, too!
Bruce,
I've been thinking about that one... With the economy in the dumpster I may have to scale back a bit.
If you were to build a 2.5 foot diameter (roughly 40% scale) Redstone then you could sheet the outside walls with 8 foot panels of .032" G10. That might make it a lot more feasible from a cost perspective.
If I were to add a porthole on the capsule (so that you would be able to see out) could you still fit inside?
8' panels of G10 would be way pricey. Far more than building it out of a big sonotube with glass reinforcing. Full scale, I think your G10 bill might run well up into 5 figures
