I picked up a Mozzie (Mosquito upscale) and was wondering if anyone built one and had any recommendations or modifications. I was thinking about a single layer of fiberglass on the fins and something to make the nosecone less chip-prone. I would like to keep it light, though, so it still flies on an F motor, but is strong enough to take something like a CTI H87.

besides... it is getting too slow on the NCR forums.
I have a 2" scratch upscale of a Mosquito. Purchased the nosecone
from 'Scottglass'. I think the nosecone is indestructible.
Any way. It takes G80s real well. Streight as an arrow. I am
sure mine would take an H but it would go out of site.
It loves Fs.
The configuration of Mosquito is very very strong. I would add
a third centering ring. And lengthen the motor tube by four
inches or so and let it hang out the bottom. This makes room
for a slimline retainer and a 29/240 size motor casing. This pulls
the ejection charge further away from the chute also.
Just my 2 cents worth.
With the stock motor mount, there is barely room for the chute unless I hang it out the back and weight the nose, so I started rethinking the mods. With an H87 motor, it exceeds 900 fps. Unless I'm willing to laminate the fins, I think she'll shred on a baby H.
So my current plan it to make minor reinforcements and plan on flying it on F and G motors- pretty much stock. I hardened the balsa nosecone, added two more centering rings for a bomber shock mount and fin bracing, and am using a longer kevlar shock cord. Chute gives a descent rate of about 25 fps.
It's a pretty fun build. It shares more construction style with low power than high power, but the tube and fin parts are cut accurately.
With a little luck I'll have it ready for next weekend. I wonder if we will launch?
