Who else other than Performance/Wildman carries hollow 29 and 38 nose cones?
I canceled my Wildman order last night, I'm tired of waiting with no responses to emails - ever!
I need 2 of each. Who do you guys use? I guess I will have to try the other type or suck it up and bore out the PML ones I have.
I assume you have tried Performance? He may have some on the shelf... They can be tough to find. I'll look later - I may have one or two 38mm? They'd be 5:1 conical....
Greg,
I have a 29mm fiberglass conical nose cone that I got from Mike Bennett that im not going to use. It needs some fiberglass filling and a tad of TLC but is very light weight. Your more than welcome to it.

Thanks, I think that was one of the ones in the box that I was going to try and get......
I'll pm you....
JW, I haven't tried performance directly. I figured that since Wildman probably didn't have one, that meant Performance was out too and he would't get around to making another one for a year or so..... 😯
I've been waiting 2 months for an order from Performance Rocketry (he collected the funds on May 25th). Curtis calls every couple weeks to tell me the 'order is going out this week' but he doesn't respond to emails. I imagine he's pretty busy with the increased interest in his kits or something but seems like a bad idea to order parts from him. He claims that my FG airframe and centering rings are done - just need to be shipped.
I have purchased Performance Rocketry stuff from Ken at Performance Hobbies with pretty good luck (these are two completely separate companies). I have always called first to make sure it's in stock.
Now, Ken is not carrying much Performance Rocketry stuff as he has had the same problems that many have had with Curtis. He still has some remaining PR material so give him a call, he may be able to help with the 38mm NC.
Im thinking about getting into the Rocketry Bussiness.
Seems like a pretty forgiving bussiness.
Just a shrug from the customers when they dont get thier order. LOL.
Im going directly to his supliers and get the raw parts I want.
Anyone here have a lathe ???? 🙂
Try Bob and Neil at Rockets Magazine/ Liberty launch Systems. They've been carrying alot of Performance products, mostly kits, but have a pretty good pulse response with Curtis. Just a thought.
Basically, my experience with Curtis at Performance Rocketry is he doesn't ship a damn thing until you've called him very irate at least twice and threatened to call the BBB and sue him. I once waited 6 months for a nose cone he supposedly had in stock when I called to order. My current trick is OK Curtis - here's an order - when you have it boxed to ship and have a shipping label on it, call me and I'll give you the credit card number.

Mule, I just sent you a private message...
Got the messages from the two of you. Thanks, I appreciate it.
I'm going to try the other places you guys talked about and see what I can do. I wish there was another source for these.
Scott, I have a 16x26 lathe..... I even have an extra one I'm getting ready to sell too. A small 10x12" AA-109. IE Sears 1964 mfg. Nice unit for hobby - hint hint hint. Even does threading.... No tooling, I never used it.
OK,
Liberty - nothing smaller than 54 & only Ogives.
Performance Hobbies - YES!

WELLL, let's just say I hope he has the stuff..... IF he has everything I just ordered, I'll be pretty happy...... With the 29 and 38 from D & JW I'll be set. The only thing I still need to get is some plastic single use 29mm case material from Mr. Skuba..... I PMd John a while back and haven't heard form him. Anyone know how to get in touch with him?
Thanks
G
Sorry I'm so late on this... but what Ed and Joe said about good PR sources is true. Before I met Tim Thomas of Giant Leap, I got most of my stuff from Ken of Performance Hobbies, a really great guy with speedy delivery. Liberty Launch Systems is another good source. They will let you know what they have in stock and what they don't. You're guaranteed a quick delivery if they do. As far as Curtis, I have never heard anything good about him. If he didn't make the best and most inexpensive G10, he'd be out of business. One well-known member of this club and a good friend had the worst experiences with him. The fact that Curtis gave him a spiel on business still makes me laugh. Not my place to say anything more on that member's behalf. I would NEVER deal with him directly, and NEVER deal with anyone who will charge your card BEFORE delivery. Period. That's what makes vendor club members like Tim Thomas, Jim Amos, and others so valuable to the club and hobby. They're great people and honest businessmen. Fortunately, Curtis is one of a kind.
I spent some time on the phone with Ken today. Really nice guy. He called me about my order and just to talk about stuff. A+ for Perf H.
If things work out, there may be another source for some cool stuff in the future...... I'm going to be talking to a mfg friend of mine and see if his company can do anything.
Also,
Thanks for the info boss.

I know, that surprised me, too. A call is relatively expensive, but call he does. Imagine what that does for customer loyalty? THAT'S good business.
