Just curious if anyone has any excess 5-7 oz satin weave glass they'd part with? I bought some at HobbyTown today, and when I got it out of the bag I instantly knew I'd have problems... the stuff was sooooooooo stiff. Sure enough, I wet some out and laid it in a tip-to-tip joint, and it wouldn't stay put. Not even close.
This stuff had the absorption of a sheet of copy paper and it was about 4x that stiff. NO WAY it would work w/o vacuum bagging - and even then I'm not so sure.
SIG (who makes much of this stuff) is kind of a joke. I called them once and asked about why their glass was different from bag to bag and they told me they bought the cheapest stuff they could and it depended what deal they made. They weren't kidding...
If no one has any, can someone suggest an online source?
Hi John,
One that comes immediately to mind is http://www.sollercomposites.com . I checked and they do have a selection of glass fabric. Also carbon fiber and carbon/kevlar and carbon/class hybrids. I didn't see anything in glass other than 8.8oz 2x2 twill. Might be worthwhile to give them a call.
Also, you might want to take a look at http://www.acp-composites.com . Somewhat better selection there.
Thanks, Ken - will give them a call tomorrow!

John,
I have material that is closer to the 5 oz size if you want to borrow some. Other options include http://www.avtcomposites.com/ and www.plasticareinc.com which is on south Santa Fe. Give them a call to see what they have in stock. They will ship, or you can pick it up.

Hey,
Yeah, Heath at http://www.plasticareinc.com/ has lost of fiberglass. I got alot of my fabric and supplies from him. They make alot of stuff there too, so he has a great working knowledege of the product which was great for me, after all the online research.
NEVER buy composite fabrics from someone like SIG. I always go to a speciality biz like sollercomposites.com or similar.

John, I have some I just got from Soller composites you are more than welcome to use. It's a 2x2 twill, 8.8 oz/yd. It's the FHX88-50 shown in the link below.

Let me know if you want any, I have about a yard and a half I think.
Maybe swap for some kevlar?
Ken.
