I have been using 9/16 tubular nylon w/sewn ends in My 4" and
5.5" rockets. They are 1200lb test. (TN-25 Loc Precision)
My 8" rocket is going to weigh somplace around 25lbs or so
loaded.
Are these still worthy?
Good rule of thumb says a shock cord should be four to five times the length of the rocket. 9/16 tubular nylon should be alright. If you use an electrician chain or pirate chain method in the cords that helps absorb and dissipate a lot of the dynamic stress in the seperation and extension of the shock cords. I often say, use what you've got or dance with who you brought until you need or find better.
Even Event Horizon used 2" nylon. I, personally use Kevlar, from Tim Thomas, since I burned nylon once and lost the top of my rocket and a certification. The Kevlar has never failed me, not even once. Whatever you use, stay with it; however, you can never go wrong with Kevlar. 😉
