i finished the layup on my first t-2-t job. i used peelply, but i noticed that there is still some "unwanted topology" on my fins. my first thought was to sand everything flush, but i quickly noticed that i was starting to sand into the cloth. i panicked and stopped. how do i remove or flatten out small waves on the fin surfaces?
One thing you can try, and which I have done before, is to brush on a layer of 20 minute finish cure epoxyand let it cure. This will help to fill in low spots and give you something other than the cloth to sand.
Depending on the final finish you want (paint or a clear finish showing the fabric weave), I use either Aeropoxy light - a very light sandable epoxy putty or I put on an additional thin layer of fiberglass as a sanding veil. I can sand into the fiberglass without affecting the underlying carbon (or glass).
thanks! I think i'll try the 20 min fill epoxy. i happen to have some from BSI that i thought that i would never use, until now.
